      happyheart:

I have rescheduled all tuition to end at least 2 days before each paper. 😄
So does your kid will self-revise during these 2 days before each paper? My DS thrives better under tuition and in fact, he has tuition up to the day before each paper :nailbite: , so far he's taking this last lap positively so I just want to \"ride on his right mood\"......Anyway, 2 more down today!

      Finally, it is SHOWTIME!

To boost DS's confidence, I just tell him : \"there's nothing you haven't learnt, so nothing to be afraid of...\"

Good luck to all our PSLE kiddos! :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:

      SpartanMum:
Was stressed out from work yesterday, and DS was acting up a bit , arguing and justifying as we practised MT orals. Lost my temper and made a caustic remark
We are all guilty of this sometimes especially when our DCs try to test our \"limited\" patience, I've had my fair share of shouting matches with my DS as well over his attitude, carelessness, etc...but I have learnt that as we near PSLE, it is more important to keep their mental health in tip-top condition, so that they go into the exam with a clear, confident mind.

Sounds easy? No, it is not, I've to internalize a lot of my own stress and expectation and not just to dump it on DS.....

It's a find line that we thread on...must make DC revise, but dun stress them to the point of break down.

My brain says relax but the rest of me is just going berserk.

Fully understand what you are going through, but I guess as PSLE parents, we just have to keep calm, and \"chill\"...and do not forget if we are overly stressed or nervous, it gets transferred to our kids...I know it is hard...but have to TRY our best.

    • RE: Kids of pushy parents 'face higher risk of depression': NUS

      rains:
This article says we must have high expectations of our kids bcos kids with high parental expectations tend to be more successful. Then another article says we should not have unrealistic expectations of our kids. 'High' and 'unrealistic' expectations - where do we draw the line?

I would interpret all these in relativity.

If my child averages 50...expecting him to hit 70 is high expectation, expecting him to hit 90 is unrealistic expectation.

If my child averages 70...expecting him to hit 90 is high expectation, expecting him to hit 100 is unrealistic expectation

If my child averages 90...expecting him to hit 100 could be just a \"normal\" expectation...

So again it is back to relativity....in my opinion, it is always good to put some form of stress (what we call the good stress) so that the child is duly stretched to achieve inert potential.
Sometimes, going that extra mile does bring in a lot more.

Anyway, it's a competitive world out there, as working adults we all know as well, competition will get keener as globalization continues, so it is still good to make sure that our kids are duly stretched WITHIN their tolerance limits from young, so hopefully this prepares them for the working world outside when they grow up.

We all know our own children best, just don't overkill.

Like what sleepy said, a delicate balance must be struck indeed. On the whole, more encouragement and moral support is needed, rather than pushing.

      :goodpost:

      Agree.....\"balance\" is the key word...物极必反,切记!
Simple concept, but easier said than done.

. Feel rather insecure. Not sure if you encounter the same too

Lam, school has few topics to teach now and they hv started to revise, so I don't think you should be too anxious. As long as the kid is absorbing well in school, does the homework consciously and plus if kid has tuition and is cooperating with tutors...I think not necessarily to overload them. As what some other parents had reminded, it is very critical not to burn them out in these last few mths, if not, 功亏一篑。In my opinion, just pace them, they must work hard, but must give them some space to breathe as well. I know it is hard to control our own anxieties (myself too 😄 ) but we just have to try to balance all these.

Actually I realized, this year I became less kancheong than when my DS was P5…that’s because, I see with my own eyes that my child is trying his best…there are times he grumbled that he’s been deprived of his play time, but I could see him biting the bullet and hanging in there. It pained my heart many a times when he did not get his desired result, bcos he’s an average kid…so I’ve learnt to hold my tongue and instead just support him in whatever way I can…and I always tell him, as long as u’ve done your best, that’s good enough.

I’m sure some of you have read abt the 11 year old fernvale case, a timely reminder to all parents…esp for all of us with PSLE kids…
