      AWSP:
I saw a difference in the Maths TextBks, heard that some GEP students DSAed in with lower scores than the main cohort; however it appears that that the main cohort cannot cope with the maths syllabus. ---- I am confused --- I would nevertheless like to see a level playing field rgdless for DS in sec school.

No offence but I think GEP have an unfair advantage.
DSA is about specific talents, GEP or mainstream, there will be cases where those entering via DSA may have lower T-scole. Inevitable cos it is that specific talent that the school wants, but i suppose the scole wont be tht far off. As for GEP kids, the syllabus in P4 to P6 is already quite different from mainstream mainly becos these kids need more challenging stuff to keep them going, else they may get really bored in school... maybe better this way

In DSA talk, after the session ends with Q&A, was told that GEP students will be separate from mainstream. The reason: they found that this year Y1 students cannot cope. Looks like it is true.

question - who cannot cope? GEP or the mainstream?

Does anyone know the differnece between Isspark n mainstream in terms of syllabus and pace?

It is a good opportunity for taking a holiday as the P6 students have worked hard this whole year, so they should enjoy a good break. πŸ˜„

The Chinese saying goes that \"reading 10,000 books does not surpass travelling 10,000 miles\". Let the children see the big wide world out there.
      Agree and thanks.
      Festive Greetings to all 😎

My estimation and forecast as below:

Top 3 % - above 261 since this is the EESIS COP this year. If you calculate the total number of IP school, estimate their intakes, take 30% of them (according to MOE), divided by the cohort this year, you will find out that it is about top 3%.

We also know that 248 is the top 10% as this is the COP for 3rd Lang. (French, Japanese, German) this year.

So we can estimate the rests as below:

      Top 3%: 261 and above
      259 - 260: Top 4%
      257 - 258: Top 5%
      255 - 256: Top 6%
      253 - 254: Top 7%
      251 - 252: Top 8%
      249 - 250: Top 9%
      248: Top 10%

The total intake of all the IP schools is estimated to be around 5% ~ 6% of the cohort (take 400 x No. of IP school, divided by total no. of PSLE cohort).

I think this year the cohort in overall didn't do well. You can see from the drop of EESIS COP and the top 10% is now at COP 248!!

Also, you will notice that RI COP over the past few years was about 1 point below the EESIS while RGS and NYGH COPs were 1 ~ 2 points above RI or on the EESIS COP.

Therefore, we can estimate the RI COP this year is about 260, while RGS and NYGH will be around 261.

I also estimated that the COP for RVH will be either maintain or up due to their new campus and they are now \"truely\" at the west to attrach those live in the west.

HCI, DHS, ACSI COPs should go down as well. Boys' schools school such as HCI and ACSI may be affected most as their \"customers base\" is very limited and boys generally do not do as well as girls.

Anyway, we will find out on 22nd Dec. Good luck to all !! Cheers

      Sounds Good.
Btw, COP reflected in the PSLE booklet does not take into account those accepted via DSA, right? My friend's boy was on waitlist and got confirmation on the day PSLE results were announced. His T-scole is 256, while COP for last year 259.

      daisyt:

hi yellow-dk, how about some Sec 1 English literature books ? I can think of the following, award wining or good story-line (note : not all are used for Sec 1 literature)
      1) Emily of Emerald Hill
      2) To kill a mocking bird (a little difficult to understand)
      3) Animal Farm
      4) Sing to the dawn
      5) Mrs Firsby and the rats of nimh
      6) Toto chan
      7) Chinese Cinderalla
      😎 Mao last dance

As for Chinese, you can get those teenage version of the 4 classics. There is also chinese version of toto chan worth reading. Another one is the series of δ½θ΄Ίηš„θΆ…ηΊ§ι˜Ώε¦ˆ.
      Thanks Daisyt
Sounds good. Do u know if these are available in the national library?

    • How to keep our P6 kids occupied before 22 Dec 09 ?

Have been scratching my head... wondering what to do to keep my child occupied before school posting results are out.

Any recommendation on what sort of books to buy for him to read through prior to Sec 1? Problem is we don't know which school he will be going to as of now... hopefully one of the IP schools... πŸ™

      Thank u πŸ™‚

Thanks yellow-dk, good to know that the COP was 256, at least there is some hope then. Yes, you are right it is risky, but we dont seem to have many choices. Planning to also apply to NUS High, but not very confident there too.

      Thanks for your advice.
      Hi Harini
My friend called school today, last yr's COP for IB was 257

      Hi,

My son got 256 with Merit for Tamil HMT. We were hoping for an IP / IB route so that he does not have to got thro' the O levels. Based on past experiences, is there any chance of getting into ACS(I) IB with 256?

Any other schools to recommend, most other IP schools are SAP schools with no Tamil. Please help :?: ...
I heard that last year's COP was 256 for IB programme. You wont know and cant choose thus it depends on this year's cohort and the no. of kids applying... no gurantee. If unsuccessful, they will post child to \"o\" level route, so its risky...
