    • RE: [Queenstown] Primary Schools

      Hi

My son is also in the 2010 intake and we are staying at redhill area. My 1st choice is Zhangde as I’m impressed by their open house and the greenery environment. But then, Zhangde is having balloting > 2km this year so my 2nd choice will be GES which is <1km from my house which I am a bit apprehensive. However, I have a feedback from friend recently that her son who is studying at GES. The 1st year, her son’s result was just average but on his 2nd year, her son is the top 3 in the level with another teacher. My friend is also very surprise as she did not give any extra tuition or guidance at all and her son told her that the teacher who taught them is good and patient.

So, whether good or average school, sometime it all boils down on how devoted is the teacher who is teaching the class.

    • RE: All About Autism

      Hi,

My son was slow in speech until 4 years old and in fact, his nursery teacher suggested to see specialist. I had brought up my concern to the doctor during his 3 year old checkup and he mentioned that it was okay as some children tends to have slow development. And true enough, my son started to progress very fast since his K1 until now (K2)and he is so talkative and curious that I have to stop him from asking questions at times.

I think he is lacking of social interaction as he is the only child in the family and also with the maid alone in the daytime.

Also, we try to bring him out more frequently to have some social interaction.

      Regards.

Hi all, I was at the ZhangDe open house which was my first one too. I share the same feeling which gave me a good impression on the students’ introduction and the environment. However, when I tried to get more details about their academic performance, the teachers simply brushed away by saying it is just a neighbouring school so should not be compared with the elite schools. A bit disappointed about the comments they made. But, they did mention that the dip in the overall result in 2007 is due to the three down syndrome students who failed the exam.

I will be going to Gan Eng Seng this weekend open house on 19/07/05 and will let you know the outcome.

      Cheers.

I can’t whether it is conducted by Ednoland but the course fee is something about $400++ per term, 3 hrs 2 times a week with a lunch provided.

      Hi Chiefkiasu,

I have tried before I enrolled him to the chinese immersion programme and he simply switched off once I started to communicate in Mandarin. However, since the programme, he seems to develop the interest in chinese and right now, I have no problem of teaching him in chinese. Probably, in the first place, my teaching method was not right and that why he had shown no interest in chinese. Sigh.

My son is in Queenstown Good Shepherd since his pre-nursery up to now K1. Generally, i think that the teachers there are caring and friendly. Most importantly, they have an immersion chinese programme after school if your child is weak in Chinese. My son benefits a lot from this programme and now he can speak to me in Mandarin very confidently.

      Hi Chief Kiasu,

My son is going to primary one in 2010 and I need to make a decison on which school he should enroll now just in case i will need to be a PV for the chosen school. Gan Eng Seng is the nearest to my house (within 1 km) but from the comments you made, it seems not advisable. However, I’m not ambitious as well, so I chose Chang De the second nearest (1-2km) from my home. From the past 2 yrs registeration, there was no balloting on 2007 phase 2C and balloting on 2006 phase 2C. So, right now, i am a bit confused whether to go for PV or not. Please advise.

      Regards,
