      doratheexplorer:
Hi guys my flight to melbourne is booked. Anyone visiting between 12 to 19 dec. my dh decided to drive to GOR on 2 day trip so from melbourne city we drive down to geelong and start the scenic drive right. Before nightfall where will I probably end up my night stay. Will I be able able to reach port Campbell. I need to book accomodation in advance right. I came up with this itinerary from geelong all the to portcampbell. I must reach before it gets dark coz hubby driving so for safety sake. From port Campbell we set of to warnambool, is it worth going to warnambool or shld I turn back from port camp back to melbourne city. I am also thinking if I shld start my GOR on day of arrival, which is 1020am. Or the last 2 days of my tour. Kindly advice so I can book my accomodation.thank u.

I am assuming you are taking a night flight into Melbourne? Then I would advise you to do GOR on the last two days. Unless your hubby is the kind that can have a good night's sleep on the plane. Cos the GOR drive is quite a challenging one and one needs to stay alert.

For the drive back to Melbourne from Port Campbell, you can take a shorter route via Colac instead of the coast. Stop by the Red Rocks at Colac. Lovely view.

Between Harbourtown and DFO South Wharf, which outlet mall has better bargains? Or is it worth shopping here at all?

      Hi jme,

I was half expecting the mod to shift my whole posting actually šŸ˜‰ That is great qn on beef. Perhaps the frequency of the arrival of fresh beef will be an indicator of whether they sell fresh or frozen. Maybe just ask them without elaborating further.

Fermenting sounds exciting! Haven't got time to look into that just yet. Have fun!

      Hi jme,

It is not true that grass fed beef are not injected. Only certified organic beef are not. But do note that it is not a requirement that organic beef are grass fed. It just need to be fed on a 100% organic feed based on the USDA organic standard.

The prob with organic chicken is food-borne illness. 83% of all chicken meat (including organic and jab-free brands) is infected with either campylobacter or salmonella at the time of purchase. This is from a Consumer Reports study published years ago. There was a more recent one this year stating above 90%. The main problem is with the processing. For example, clean healthy birds are immersed into the same massive tank with dirty ones to be communally cooled. This causes cross-contamination. Besides, most organic chicken are also frozen. I dun do anything frozen so tat is out.

For jab-free chicken, their feed is questionable. I guess you are referring to the Malaysia ones. I have checked with the organic shop owners, they too are clueless about the feed. They could be fed GM feed, or synthetic feed.

Always go for wild seafood. This one we will have to depend on the integrity of the fish mongers. Most salmon in sin are farmed. Try to consume supplements which helps pull mercury and other heavy metals out of your system.

We take a lot more fresh org veg rather than fruits. So I cant really help much. But I do stock up on my dried org fruits like cranberries, currants, dates... when I holiday in States or Australia. For bananas, stay away from Del Monte. Heavily sprayed. I suspect mangoes was irradiated before they reach the stores.

I am guessing sf means casein-free? My recipes are still a work-in-progress šŸ˜‰ Have in mind to revamp them all. I am not happy with them and am too ashamed to share. I am not happy with my dependency on stuff like org brown rice pasta and beehoon (which are hard to digest & ups the blood sugar too much) but my girls love them. Trying to increase the portion of raw veg in the menus. We do plenty of raw salads and wraps and juicing. Have also been experimenting with sprouting and dehydrating.

Hope you find the info useful! Have a blessed weekend!

      Hi Scang,

I believe we are on the same track which is great. Like you say \"The purpose of nutrient supplement is to supplement, not replace nor take over what we eat.\" Thank you for emphasizing that. Might I also add that a limited few supplements are essential like probiotics and omega becos we typically can't consume enough of it in a safe way thru food given our polluted earth.

The main problem is most vitamins and supplements in the market are harmful. Since most of us are not do not have the knowledge to differentiate one from the other. This is what is the most worrying when I see parents shopping for them just becos the promoter say it is popular or their friends give it to their kids. I am glad you have done your due diligence to ensure that yours are safe. That is so impt.

I however still suggest that multi-vits be left out of one's diet as Dr Campbell has already done the necessary research to prove that it will likely cause more harm than good.

Also have to agree with you that the source of organic food is of utmost importance. I am so particular that this Fukushima incident is giving me fresh headaches! I agree with you that there is no way I can ensure 100% that the ones I eat are completely safe but that does not mean I should continue to eat conventionally grow foods knowing that there are loaded with pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, antibiotics, hormones (blood, mucous, feces in milk too!) ...and depleted of nutrients.

Not all organic foods are the same. I do not consume chicken or pork whether organic or not. Even organic has its problems. Definitely no GM foods on our dinner plates. Like you mentioned our foods are so depleted of nutrients and highly toxic, we need to ensure that what goes into our children's mouth is the best and safest. From the birth to 6 yrs old, a child will consume 50% of the total amount of pesticide in his lifetime. This is also the time when their developing body needs vital nutrients for optimal growth. No Omega capsule alone is gonna ensure that a child has optimal brain development without safe and nutritious organic food to lay the foundation.

Would like to share this article which I shared the other day with some friends with everyone:
How eating organic improves your child's health
      http://www.sheknows.com/food-and-recipes/articles/804652/how-eating-organic-improves-your-child-s-health?utm_content=bufferbdbe5&utm_source=buffer&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=Buffer

My youngest asked me the other day: \"Mommy, next time can we move to a house with a small garden so we can plant our own organic foods?\". Well, at present, I am so busy getting 3 safe meals fresh and home-cooked with only whole foods on the table, I can't imagine taking care of a garden. And we have not even considered the affordability issue šŸ˜‰

      To good health my friend!

      Hi scang,

I appreciate and concur with Dr Ray's views on the importance of preventive actions to be taken instead of disease management which is happening in our conventional medical society.

Unfortunately, I am not comfortable relying on him for nutrition advice because he currently seats on the Scientific Advisory Board of ARIIX and is also the company spokesperson. ARIIX is a MLM company who pushes supplements (I am sure you are well aware of that). Besides, he was also previously on USANA's medical advisory board. Another MLM company. Becos of his vested interests and possible commercial gain as a result of his connection of the MLM company, it is his job to make sure ARIIX supplements sell.

There are plenty of \"clinical research\" (plus the more accurate peer reviewed research) done by Dr. T. Colin Campbell to prove that isolating a small specific nutrient or vitamin for human consumption does not promote long term health. Instead it often leads to detrimental results e.g. Vitamin A and E supplementation is associated with an increased incidence of cancer. Most importantly, these research were done not using the funding of any commercial company.

Dr Campbell has worked as a senior science adviser to the American Institute for Cancer Research, and sits on the advisory board of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. He is known in particular for research. He has been a member since 1978 of several United States National Academy of Sciences expert panels on food safety, and holds an honorary professorship at the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. There is a whole Wikipedia page on him. Being on these national boards holding decision-making position has allowed him to witness the corruption of the whole medical industry, which he has exposed in his books. His most recent being:
      http://www.amazon.com/Whole-Rethinking-Nutrition-Colin-Campbell/dp/1937856240

We should not be relying on the idea that nutrient supplementation is the way to get nutrition. Each whole food has thousands of compounds in them. This is not the same as those powdered or capsule \"wholefoods\" supplements. Any processing spells trouble. They are not as bio-available to the body as taking the whole food itself. There is simply no magic bullet. You can read more about it in his books.

Besides, supplements from such MLM companies are not cheap. They do need to pay their MLM members for referral. Why not channel that same money into buying organic whole foods instead?

I personally am not a doctor, but I would like to share some factual evidence from my own family. Ever since I have switched our family's diet to plenty of whole organic foods and eliminated all the evils (sugar, wheat, milk, soy...), we have not stepped into a GP clinic for the last 3 years.

There are plenty of other doctors who concur with Dr Campbell. But I believe his extensive research and uncompromising background should suffice for this scenario.

I hope this sharing will help others make a more informed decision on their nutritional choices. Give our body what it really needs - whole food, and it will take care of itself šŸ™‚
