Thank you very much for your replies. No wonder this forum is active. Because the replies are faster than the school's :).
Tetsujin - could I draw upon your years of experience please? When is the first parent teacher meeting for Sec 1's? Before the actual Parent Teacher meeting, what are my avenues for reaching out to teachers? I would think email is the less intrusive on teachers' time.
I have a younger son who is in P5, a neighbourhood school. I communicate with his teachers via email. They respond maybe 2-3 days later but at least, they do.

RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
Hi Jeannie12
There were 2 test results for my son.
Maybe you need to check with the teacher.
However, teachers don’t seem to reply to emails much.
My son has emailed his teacher twice about other matters. She hasn’t been replying.
Just want to ask: do your teachers reply to your son’s questions via email?
I am quite disappointed with some of the teachers who don’t seem to reply even to urgent emails about missed work etc. What is the school policy on this? -
RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
Hi
Could someone kindly explain about ELL final computed grade.
E.g. score of A/20, B/20 and C/20 for the 2 assignments n test respectively.
Do I take the weightage of 15%, 15% and 70% to computer overall grade, i.e.
A/20x 0.15 + B/20 x0.15 + c/20 x 0.7 = Final mark?
Both of us are very confused. How can weights add up to more than 100%?
The Chinese weights add up to exactly 100%, which should be the way! -
RE: Victoria School
Dear all
NEED your advice urgently please. My husband (VS and VJC alumna himself) and I would really love to enrol our DS1 in VS. The ONLY snag is the long commute from where we stay, ie Woodlands. And there’s no MRT, just buses which includes changing of bus. This seems such a silly reason not to choose the school.
Does anyone know of any bus transport or private arrangement for students in Woodlands? please do let me know.
thank you! -
RE: School Placement Exercise for returning S'porean children
Hi
See someone here mentioned that even if plans are not firm for returning, it’s better to sit for SPERS. May I know what happens if you really cannot return to Singapore because of reasons beyond your control?
Will the Secondary School honor the posting as long as you have accepted the position? Can we apply for LOA? Would this be subject to any conditions? Would really love to hear from moms who have taken this route? How long would the school hold the LOA for you?
Thanks!
