Will definitely have to register my girl under Phase 2C. Submission of the documents is on 30 Jul 2012. If say there is a need for balloting, will it be done on the same day? I'm a bit confused now cos if my 1st choice of school, if I dont stand a chance for balloting, then I have to bring another extra set of documents to 2nd choice for registeration?

The balloting will only start after the phase 2C registration has completed. It depends on the school. Annoucement of the results is on 7 Aug. The ballot will hold after that. Henceforth, it is important for you to have a few schools to stand by and monitor the vaccancies of the school you want carefully by calling the school admin.

      Dear NH Parents,

      Hope you can help.
There is a section on Mental sum in Math curriculum. May I know whether the child need to know some basic mental calculation to cope with such subject? Do I need to send my child to any form of abacus or kumon training to deal with such? Will my child be disadvantage if my child has no such training? Are many children attending abacus or some form of mental calculation training? Thank you.

      Dear All parents,

Below is the extract from MOE in regards to the jabs required for your child P1 registration.

With reference to Singapore’s National Childhood Immunisation Schedule, all children (Singapore Citizens and Non-Singapore Citizens) should have completed the following immunisations before entry into Primary One:

      BCG
1 dose (usually given at birth)

      Diphtheria*, Pertussis & Tetanus
      3 doses (usually given at 3, 4 & 5 months)
+1 booster dose (usually given at 18 months)

      Oral Sabin (immunisation against poliomyelitis)
      3 doses (at 3, 4 & 5 months)
+ 1 booster dose (usually given at 18 months)

      Measles*, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
      1 dose (usually given at 1 – 2 years)

      Hepatitis B
      3 doses (usually given at birth, 1 & 5 to 6 months)

The certificate is necessary as school administrator taking in full set of copies of documents. When the registration is near, you will receive instruction on what are the documents needed and they would advise you to go to the website to print out the cert. The administrator would not have time to photocopy the booklet or verify whether the photocopy of the booklet via the booklet is authentic.

    • RE: S'poreans to get priority for P1 places during balloting

      Freesia:
      Dear Wayne,

Alumni contributes to the school. Be it financially or non financially. At many schools like RGPS, SCGS, ACS, MGS, the Alumni fund certain programmes and even plan and conduct certain extra programe for the children. They are closely bonded. They takes care of one another even they are on the street if they know they are from the same school. Thus, the contribution may not be direct. This also explains why many people wants to get in. Versus one who just lives close by; the parent has put in at least 6 years if not 10 years of their life to the school and also able to share the history of the school.
I echo your points. Branded schools have built to their current status due to their strong alumni. It is hard to ask ACS to forget about their Alumni. this school is famous for its strong Alumni. For every development of the school, the Alumni are consulted. The Alumni contributed alot to the school. they would like their children to reap the benefits that had invested.

This is really great news for us. My DS is trying for 2B at Nan Hwa. Had initially plan to shift to within 1 km to increase our chance of getting a place. Wonder how we can find out the % of PV who are SC and if I should still go ahead to look for a place within 1km?

the most accurate way is to call up Nan Hua, ask them for past 3 yrs info regarding :-
      %tage of PV who are SC, balloting details by distance under < 1km, < 2km, > 2km.

school is the best person to advise you.

school will advise you willingly, esp. if they know you're genuine in seeking info, to help make decisions.

      example with PEPS:-
      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33566&start=210

I had tried that before. But school refused to divulge the breakdown between Singaporean, Foreigners and PR. They had emphasis that every child had his/ her fair share. I would understand why school wants to protect such information. No school would like to be highlighted to be in favour of PR / foreigners.

Is affiliation important? I always think it is not important until this year when I saw my niece's PSLE results. My niece did very well in my opinion for her PSLE. Her score is 250. However, she can't qualify to her dream school, MGS. The cut off of the school without affiliation is 253. She was very disappointed. Now she has to apply for other alternatives. If she was from MGS primary, she would be guaranteed a place. More and more good secondary schools are going IP, MGS, SCGS, Cedar girls etc. This would mean cut-off points to get to these secondary schools will be higher. Affiliation seems to be the only way to obtain a place in such schools if your child's score is between 235 to 250. To me such score is good but they may not be good enough to qualify for such good secondary school.

at one point in time, i feel that affiliation is not important, but then again without even 1 mark, one cannot get into one's dream school , so every mark counts. and it gets :gloomy: if you know that that dream sch has affiliated schs that enjoys the benefit and you wish you were in that pri sch.
your niece did well. 🙂 congrats to her.
there is no affiliation benefits for entry into IP stream for affilate schs. but for schs like ACSI where i read that they give priority to own O-level stream students for transfer to their IP-IB stream (correct me if i am wrong), the benefits starts when the boys go into ACSpri. MHO.

ACI allows affiliation. MGS is similar to ACI. MGS is providing mid-stream IP program.

I need your help. I had tried to purchase the books online but I always face error messages. I almost give up. Can anyone advise me how do I purchase the books? Do I need to sign up any payment network to make the payment? Thank you very much.
