2013 P1 Registration Exercise for 2014 In-Take
-
Wow, now I am hesitating whether to send my child to Poi Ching. How can I know the primary school’s PSLE results like the national passes, school percentage passes so on and so forth? Anybody knows which are the schools in Tampines with high % of passes and scores of A/A*? Primary registration starts in Jun/Jul just 1-2 mths aways. I am very anxious to know how the schools fare on last year PSLE esp the ones that I am interested to enroll my child in?

You are a wise parent who has chosen a school near to where your child and you live. My suggestion to you: 1st choice you can put Rivervale. 2nd choice will be those new schools in SK with student care inhouse service. You should short list at least 2 schools for Phase 2Cs in the event can't ballot into Rivervale Primary though u stay within 1 km. 3 new schools that began operation in Sengkang this year are Palm View Primary, Sengkang Green Primary and Springdale Primary. Remember new schools come with new facilities. But that doesn't mean the teachers are all new. There could be very experienced teachers who seek transfer to these new primary schools.
If you prefer established schools to new schools, you may consider North Spring Primary or Compassvale Primary or Sengkang Primary or North Vista Primary. Browse through all the primary school websites to get more info on their programmes and whether there will be inhouse studentcare. It's better to choose inhouse student care service than external student care service. Because the inhouse student care teachers will collaborate with your child's primary teachers and they can do a follow-up if necessary.
Good luck to you![/quote]

Hi, just to share my experience with you. I had in mind to let my child start with Higher Chinese in P1 at a selected school of choice. However, after the Parent-Teacher Meeting with my child’s Chinese teacher who have taught her for 2 years and understood her progress, shared that if my child could take the stress of learning Higher Chinese at P1, I can let her try. I got her message. To me as a parent, if my English potato child is enjoying Chinese at a comfortable pace, I should not add undue pressure and expectation on her. A stressed child will result the parents being stressed. Therefore, I’m reconsidering the school of choice now and would like my child to enjoy her early years in primary schools. I was advised that my child could still have a chance to take Higher Chinese in upper primary in future.
I’m sharing this because I have high expectation on my child just like any other parents. But, I believe that a happy child will learn better. It’s a matter of choice if you want your child to cope with Chinese at a level that is more difficult.
Lastly, my child’s weakness in Chinese is speaking part. I felt that I should help her speak more confidently in Mandarin for the next three years in order to prepare her to take Higher Chinese in upper level. Other than the speaking part, the rest like listening, writing and reading in Chinese Language have no worries for my child.
Speak to your child’s Chinese preschool teacher to find out your child’s standard. I was told that during Chinese lesson, the children were speaking in English! Horror, too late. Now, I began to speak to my child in Mandarin instead of only English.
The best time to speak to the teacher will be during Parent-Teacher Meeting. But note that each session usually is 10 to 15 mins. Prepare your questions ahead to ask the Chinese teacher in advance. -

Except for phase 1, Moe will announce later which are the days set aside for balloting for phase 2a, 2b, 2c, 2c supp and phase 3.
For each of these balloting days (example :- phase 2c ) -
It will be a common day. Ie. All hot, popular primary schools in sg will ballot on that same day. But some schools may ballot in the morning, while some ballot in the afternoon around 2pm. But balloting will occur on that very same day, across the entire singapore. The school will inform you in due time - whether or not you'll be eligible for balloting in that hot, popular school(s), after phase 2c end. -
Thank you Phtthp

Parents,
please photostat 3 sets of documents bring along with you, in case photostated copies are required by the school on that day.
You won't want to hunt for a photostating machine last minute on that day.
Can imagine the scene of P1 registration ... Parents crowding anxiously around those P1 registration officers, asking questions on the spot, etc. -
