ngl2010:
Usually I don't pull out previous questions that DS did not know how to do. Should I start? Sounds so scary leh... :nailbite: Maybe I shouldn't.... Ignorance is bliss...
I was told by various teachers and friends that this is the way to reinforce the concept and ensuring DS knows how to do similar type questions. Can't tell for sure it works but I do do know other ways...anyway  -
Jennifer:
very sian right? Feel like broken down machine with a fast heart rate
Yes, I hv the same feeling :stupid:happyheart:
I pulled out some previous questions that he did not know how to do but the more I pull, the more I panic :yikes: you know what I mean
I want to stop pulling but I can't. -

The other day I marked the geometry qn, so simple yet he put a big ? on the qn n some ore remarked Not enough info, cannot solve. I wrote down the way to solve n passed back to him. Ytd I double checked with him whether he has seen my remarks. He admitted he did not read the qn, just looked at the diagram but assured me he will read the qn during the exam. I asked him why he wants to make me worry like that? He no ans. I must hv owed him in our previous lives

The June holiday is over
DS only managed to finish 1/4 of his target

Jennifer:
don't worry. this is quite normal. The key is motivation and interest. If the interest is there, the child will naturally pursue the question till the answer is found. Give him a diagram on a gaming strategy (ie Plants vs Zombies) and I can assure you, the child will give his utmost attention to understanding the diagram. There won't be just looking at the diagram and saying \"don't know\"

Unfortunately, conventional methods of teaching does not help to develop interest or motivation in academic subjects. On top of this, the teacher's lack of patience, early labeling of children's abilities, pressure to perform all adds to a negative influence on a child's interest. -

:thankyou: for the encouragement n advice on Plants vs Zombies.

I have a feeling that my younger son is weak in spatial intelligence. Does playing the Plants vs Zombies help? -

I thought your DS is doing fine with most subjects...no??? Curious..what would be his original target of 4/4? -
happyheart:
He targeted to finish 80 top school papers during the June holiday (he set the target himself. I have nothing to do with it. Please don't flame me.). He only finished 22 papers. Sigh... Now I must think carefully how to discuss this with him as it will affect his behaviour in the future. Should I tell him next time not to set such a high goal or should I be happy that at least he finished a quarter of his target or should I be angry with him?ngl2010:

Eh… I think 80 is too high a target… Maybe because we didn’t focus on past papers so what DS has done is a fraction of what yours has…
