One laser printer - for black and greyscale normal document printing and your photo printer. At least you won’t waste precious inkjet ink printing normal documents. Laser printer toners can last 2000-3000 pages and they cost around $70-$100. -
Inkjet printers are cheap so that the manufacturer can lock you in buying their refills.
Always go for lasers if you printing needs are pretty basic like mine. They are around $150-$250 and gives good value in the long run. Replacement toners are around $70-$100 and last for 2000-3000 pages depending on what you print.
I have a Canon LBP series. Very budget but extremely reliable. Good stuff ! -
Yes laser definitely better. Also if you seldom print, the ink may dry in inkjet printer.

Yes I do. I have both.
All-In-One or AIO printers have a combination of fax-scanning-photcopy-printing capabilities. AIO printers are also divided into laser or inkjet types. These are very good for office use and is space saving. But if it fails and is sent for repair, then you can fax, copy, print etc.
peronally I like the standalone laser printer. It is a printer and nothing more. -
Any recommendation for a printer that can:
1. print colour and FAST
2. print photo quality on photo paper
3. scan
4. copy
5. print on CDs directly (not making CD disc labels only)
6. reasonable consumption of ink
Canon, Epson or Brother? No more HP for me…enough experience already. -

Colour and fast - unless documents, you set in DRAFT or ECON print modes
CDs direct - look for AIOs with a straight through print path or has some sort of adapter to print CDs, and
ink - Epson now has models with large external ink wells especially for heavy printing. Think canon has it too.
Also consider double-sided printing option, and network option to share the printer with more than 1 PC. -
Just saw on homedirectory book the ads for OKI printer. Has anyone try that before?
I currently have a Fuji Xerox laser printer at home. But I realised that after printing 10+ consecutive pages, the printer will "sound breathless"… -

This is a little dated, but here is my experience on the matter.
On toners, refilled are ok, but works well in an office environment as refilled toner powder may be sensitive to humidity but constant printing ensures the powder stays in powder form. Hence the longer a printer is not used (in a home environment), the higher the likelihood of the toner \"clumping\" together. Also there is the likelihood of the powder spilling out as the container may not have been sealed properly.
With ink, it depends on the quality of ink used. This affects the printout quality and may affect the printhead causing clogged printheads. Prints may \"bleed\" on the paper with lower quality remanufactured cartridges. If you are using an ink printer with the fixed printhead, you may permanently damage the printer's ability to print due to inks drying up faster in the printer nozzles. Again, leaks may occur.
