[Serangoon] Primary Schools
-
Hai… I will be shifting to Serangoon North Ave 4 next June 10 and only to realise that I had missed the PV enrolment for my child born in 2005. My heart sank when I saw the registration statics at Rosyth school for Phase 2C. Only 1 out of 3 child will be selected … OMG!
Need advise on what other choice do I have other than Rosyth around my area?
Thank as I am not familar with Serangoon. -
My son is born in 2006 and I’m interested to apply for PV in Rosyth. However, I stay in Yishun… Do they take distance into consideration for PV? Can I state in the application form that I will be moving to within 1km if selected for PV? Will this backfire instead?

I think anybody can be PV but if you stay so far, they will tell you your chances are low because you will be in a lower phase that others who stay nearer.

I know it’s a bit early but I’m considering either Yangzhen or St Gabriel for Phase 2C or 2C (Supl). Can anyone share about those 2 schools? I can’t decide which one to choose. By the way both are within 1 km from my house.

Hi my house is near both Zhonghua Pri and Yangzheng Pri.
My child will be registering for P1 this year in June for 2011 intake. Anyone out there with kids in Zhonghua/Yangzheng? Would appreciate any advice or comments. Thank you! -
I have two boys at Yangzheng and they are very happy there. The school has a very good track record of producing top PSLE pupils in the past few years and are really on a roll in terms of academic performance. The school leaders are very dedicated and work hard to improve the school environment for the children and also provide enrichment to pupils to improve their academic performance. The school also offer CCA’s to P1 and P2 via modular CCA’s (i.e., Chinese brush painting, gymnastic, creative dance, computer, scrabble, etc.) on Wednesdays. The school was also freshly painted and a new running track was built last year. There is also a group of dedicated parent volunteers working together in the school in a number of projects to enhance the children’s learning.
I’ve also heard very good things about Zhonghua. Heard that the new school principal is doing a lot of good things in the school. Teachers are also very dedicated. I know of a few families with kids at Zhonghua and they speak very highly of the school environment and the staff there.
You should visit both school and speak to the school leaders there. Also, try speaking to some parents there through the parent volunteer group.
Good luck! -
thanks for the reply ! yah, will continue trying to find out more about both schools, but realised that the parent-networking forum (under Primary Schools - Parents' Networking Groups) for both Yangzheng and Zhonghua are not active. Hope to hear from parents from these two primary schools to give feedback.

Actually I was also hoping that parents who have child study in YangZheng primary could share their experience. My gal will be register for P1 next year. Was wondering how is the standard of YangZheng in terms of facilities, academics and CCA.
Thank you! -
I can't contribute much (yet) in terms of how good/bad Yangzheng is in terms of academic standards.
My girl just went into P1. Hopefully i'll have more to tell you before June
My only grouse for now is purely logistical - i was told when i went for the registration back in July by the teacher while waiting for the office to process the form, that the school operates quite differently in terms of hours/sessions:
P1/2
===
Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri: Afternoon session: 11.40 am till 6 pm
Wed: Morning session: 7.20 am till 11.40 am
P3-6
===
Mon-Fri: all morning sessions
This situation is of course not ideal for the kid (and the parents), as we (both my wife and i are working) have to think of different arrnagements to send and fetch the kid to/from sch...
Tue is also tough, as the kid will go home late, then have to wake up early the next day...
But this is likely to change in 2012 or 2013 (can't remember), by which time MOE has mandated that all pri schs must be single-session, i.e. morning.
So far, girl likes sch and we've no complaints. -
Hi,
I’m new to the forum. Very kiasu mummy. My girl is now only coming 3 yrs old this April and i am looking at Primary school now.
I have plans to shift near school and is deciding between Rosyth and Aitong. I have slight preference over Rosyth but super worried that if i shift over to Serangoon and still can’t get in, i’ll be a dead duck.
I’ll be in phrase 2B as my hubby is a grassroot leader. So far phrase 2B for Rosyth do not need to ballot right? Am afraid in a few years time when they change to single session, will need to ballot.
Anyone got any advice for me?
