I agree. My child has learnt how to wipe her bum.
Very important:pirate:
ooh. besides reading and vocab.. i am more anxious for her to learn how to order food and calculate change and her money!
Being kiasu, i already started when she is 4 and a half!!! kekekeke...
What else to prepare them? anyone has any idea?
How to wipe her own bum!
Must teach the girls' not to let strangers touch their private parts and must teach them to know what are private parts and why strangers should not touch them there.
Not only apply to girls, boys also. :boogie: -
On top of teaching money matters, ordering food etc, you can also include teaching the child to pack their own bags (shower bag too if the child is going BASC), unpack the dirty clothes to laundry bin, washing own school shoes, shower themselves and comb their own hair.. The list goes on..

That reminds me of a health ed lesson at dd's P1 when the kids had to draw 'X' on the private parts that no strangers should touch them at. Dd was asked to see the health ed teacher for drawing too many 'X's - on her shoulders, body, legs, hands, arms and all the vital private parts!

Yes, can go Popular buy that Pri 1 Health Education book to teach. I just browsed through the book yesterday. Not bad.

I started training my boy to shower on his own and wipe his own bum since 5yo (at home he prefer to wash instead of wipe). Didn’t really like the helper fussing over him. Initially we start with he shower himself, we only monitor (to ensure he cleans properly). Now he has no issues and my friends are surprised as some of their primary school kids still need someone to shower them.
Now I’m focusing on counting money, keep his things neat and tidy, start a filing system (homework slot, letters slot, etc), getting him to get up & get ready within 20min.
For food wise his CC is helping a lot by timing them. 20min per meal. They have to queue at kitchen for their meal and bring back to the dining area, auntie and teachers not serving them (like in nursery and playgroup).
It helps a lot that the CC is bringing them on trips to foodcourt and supermarket to buy things on their own and pay on their own.
Mine so far can order his own food and pay without much trouble.
Oh! And also teaching him that if he sees something his friend has and he doesn’t, he is not allowed to take. Even if his friend offers it to him, he cannot take. He should come home and tell us what it is. If it is something he needs, we will bring him to buy.
And similarly, he is allowed to lend things to him friends, but he must ensure they return them to him by the end of the day. This part I’m not so worried. He is very ‘niao’ about his belongings. LOL! -

Not convenient for those who don't drive though.
Academic wise also really prepare them very well and the teachers are always telling them how they need to behave when they go to P1. Saves me a lot of trouble explaining and convincing him. LOL!
My younger boy is also there and he really loves it there. -

Thanks.
