My nephew is aiming to go to HCI. He is taking PSLE this year & currently studying in NYPS. Any students been asked to transfer out from HCI due to poor academic results?Students in SIP have to compete with the rest of sec 3 students in Singapore to fight for a place in HCJC.
HCJC is welcoming top O level students from other schools than half past six students from HCI. -

No, school cannot 'force' student to transfer out based on poor academic results. However, they might 'strongly' request the student to do so.

Hence, I believe that HCI introduces more SIP classes this year is to cater for such students. It is yet to see how many of these students will make it back to the IP programme in year 4. If they cannot make it back to IP in year 4 it will be highly unlikely that they will make it to HCJC based on O level result.
Regardless of which primary school, if they achieve excellent PSLE result via hot-housing tuition they should not go for IP but most likely it is the parent's decision. IP is for self motivated students. -

Strongly agree with you. We did not choose the IP track for our son. We find that he is not self discipline enough to be in the IP track even though his last year PSLE result is good. He was reading novels throughout his P5 & P6 instead of preparing for PSLE. Whereas for my nephew, the parents have send him to tuition & motivation workshop to push up his results. They hope to send their son to HCI & their girl to NYGH.

Hi,Hi All,
If your DS was via DSA to HCI previously, could you kindly share your experience on the format of DSA test on English and Chinese. MCQ or Open-ended or both?
Next the group diagloue (interview) consist a panel of interviews for a group of students. If it is the latter, how do they assess on the student performance as it is just like debate, whoever is faster in answering will the lead the conversation and other students may not have the chance to add on if the first speaker cover the topic comprehensively.
Please help
Not sure whether there are different type of interview. My DS was in GEP & his interview was not in group. He was interviewed by a senior & a HCI teacher. Most of the time, it's the senior who was asking question. No stress. Not to worry. -

For those who are not self-disciplined, the IP track may not be suitable as there are no milestone checks at Sec 4 and pupils and parents may end up with a rude shock come Year 5 and Year 6 whereby the school and teachers up the gear.

Hello!
DS got a WL2 today from HCI dsa. I was wondering if anyone here or your friends experience WL2 before? I know WL1 has very high chance but not sure of WL2, although the email said that "Based on our previous DSA exercises, almost all our Waitlisted candidates eventually gained admission into HCI." DS is very keen in HCI and hope parents can share your experiences.
Thank you! -
Song22:
I think if your ds is really keen in HCI just put it as first choice (if you have more than one WLs) during exercise phase and focus on doing well in PSLE so that even if the WL2 does not materialize your ds still can get in via PSLE.Hello!

It should start in end Dec for 3 days. This year part 1 started 31Dec till 3 Jan if I am not wrong. Quite intense and great bonding. Class allocation only confirmed on last day of orientation. Then there will consortium orientation followed by weeks of CCA orientation.
