2013 P1 Registration Exercise for 2014 In-Take
-
I suspect it may be due to a number of different factors, including
(1) not wanting a disproportionate number of foreign students in each primary school. Don’t think local parents will be amused if their kids got posted after P2Cs to a school with 75% foreign students.
(2) reserving places for those SC children who are overseas (but never registered) in case they return. After all, govt has a record of each and every one of them, and presumably must make sure that they have a school place if they do come back.
(3) cost.
Does that mean MOE still have some room to wriggle for those children on DP who are unsuccessful? -
But, there is another way also to look at it… If the numbers are correct(which i am not sure), for me, what MOE did, makes sense and seems to be a wise move.
If they let all seats to go to phase3, I am pretty sure that there will be many schools with at-least one class with 10% or 20% or 30% filled, which is really a waste of resources and under utilization of the teaching staff.
I think may be in the first step they want to make sure that each school has students in a multiple of 30 (by reducing the total number of seats) and in the second step they may allocate the balloted out students in a multiple of 30 to few schools. Say instead of having 9 students in 10 classes each, they can have 30 students in 3 classes… saves resources for 7 classes right ? -
Wow, this 2013 thread has spanned 371 pages, vs 305 pages in the 2012 thread.
thanks n kudos to all who have offered advice and insights, whether directly or indirectly, which has helped many to arrive at registration decisions for our children. Now the real work of nurturing our children in their primary sch education begins! -

I don’t think it will be the last page. Since a lot of parents are seeking MOE for helping to register their child into P1, and MOE promise to issue solution or reply within next 3 weeks, so we should wait until then. I think MOE is also working hard to help to solve this problem.

Hnmmmmm…, I am very exciting the reply of the MOE. Pls let me know if someone got the reply from MOE.

What problem? As wiltanws has already calculated, MOE still has some 2200 vacancies that were taken out after P2Cs. It's not can or cannot. It's how many foreign students (as well as the student mix) MOE deems desirable to have in those primary schools, and how many places to reserve for returning SC/PRs. -
anyone with any news on this ? I have heard rumors that there will be 40 places for each school before phase 3 but had dismissed them then as unreliable and highly unlikely. Not sure how the numbers on Phase 3 vacancies released do not tally with remaining slots after 2CS. Surely MOE would have taken them out just to release back seems like a rather an inefficient use of resources and manpower to now adressed if needed this will be adressed… SG is always so spot on with planning and forecasting in all domains hence it is so prosperous and well prepared… how can this 700+ no school number came about… there is no precedent for this… the number is simply to big and time or effort to deal with seems too much…

Called MOE and they told that they need time until end of October to get back on the outcome… So, need to wait
