Can someone please share with me which is a better market that is near da tong yang market in shanghai?Thank you.I hope to get some winter cloths.

Not sure about da tong yang market but if if u want to get winter clothing, u can try decathlon, but they are of more sporty selection and very good value.

I'll be going Shanghai for a few days on business. Will be staying at Grand Hyatt at Jin Mao. Will be there for a few nights, not like previously zip in and out and schedule so tight always eat in hotel or near office. Anyone has any good makan place to recommend for dinner? I heard Haidilao is very gd but always long Q. Worth it?

The is one located near grand Hyatt at 正大。老吉士 at 天平路 for shanghainese food or there is a branch at pudong. You can also check http://www.dianping.com for address and the popular dishes. Others such as Korean 本家， Japanese 九井 (super good!), are some good places. Hope this helps

Somehow I don't really like haidilao. For hotpot, I like 小辉哥. The is one located near grand Hyatt at 正大。老吉士 at 天平路 for shanghainese food or there is a branch at pudong. You can also check http://www.dianping.com for address and the popular dishes. Others such as Korean 本家， Japanese 九井 (super good!), are some good places. Hope this helps

I’ll b arriving in Shanghai on 8Dec midnight and leaving on 18Dec midnight. This means I have 9 full days in Shanghai. I am thinking of visiting Suzhou, Hangzhou and Nanjing. How many days shall I allocate to these 3 locations? I’ll be traveling with my 3kids aged 5,7 and 9.

2 nights each for SZ, HZ and NJ? Depends on how u move from city to city-by car, train or air?

SZ - just visit the beautiful gardens (the one Nixon visited and now replicated in Met Museum in NYC) + a half day tour of Zhou Zhuang. Can go to Tiger Mountain. Got time drop by SIP too.

HZ - I love HZ, esp lake-cruise of the Westlake. Eat at Lou Wai Lou, the Qing dynasty restaurant serving Su-Zhe cuisine.

NJ - I also enjoyed NJ, cos I'm a history buff. Do visit the NK Massacre Museum, Ming Tombs and Sun Yat Sen Mausoleum with your kids...

I'm planning to take the speed rail (is that how they call it?) from Shanghai to HZ to NJ then to SZ (if I studied the map correctly).

Betw Suzhou and HZ, which one is worth spending 2 nights, in your opinion? I initially tot of 1 night in either SZ or HZ.

Oh, it's Suzhou Industrial Park

I think if u skip the water town Zhouzhuang, 1 night should suffice for SZ. I personally like HZ...maybe it's cos I missed sipping my coffee at the (West)lakeside Starbucks...

Why dun u do this: SH - HZ - SZ - Wuxi - NJ - SH? Because HZ and NJ are so far apart and SZ is in the midpoint.

We did a similar trip too 2 years back, West Lake is nice , can take tram to tour around the lake. We joined their local tour a day to Zhouzuang too.

We did the following local tours while we were in Shanghai :


* Zhouzhuang - a 1 day trip from Shanghai. We did this during our initial visits to Shanghai. Till now, I think it is the best. Went at a time when the weather is cool, we took the boat ride as well. Tried the pig trotters (Wan san ti) and it was nice.

* Suzhou/ Nanjing - We travelled from Shanghai to Suzhou. Spent a day visiting the local sights. In the late afternoon, we took a train (included in the pkg) from Suzhou to Nanjing… It was a normal train, there were many stops. It was squeezy with people standing around you, sitting beside you closely, spitting, etc… dh wondered how we can survived on the same train back to Shanghai.

We did this tour in late november. It was rather cold. Raining in Nanjing when we arrived. Wasn’t impressed with the guide/ locals. Thought they sounded rather loud and quarrelsome. Felt diff from Shanghai. Arrived late at local hotel. Basic hotel in some ulu area. Tried to find food opposite the hotel. Next day, we went to visit those sights. Bus broke down and the men had to go down to push the bus but it worked well after that. The most memorable was the last stop at Zhong San Lin… It was cold and sky turn dark early. After the long walk and on the way back to train (travel back to Shanghai), the bus broke down for good at the place! Guide put us in those mini vans. The local tourist in our group were rushing and squeezing to get on the vans. We had no choice but to act in the same manner to get on the vans to catch our trains. Guide was not with us (one of them was in the other van). Upon reaching the station, the van driver refused to let us down as he said there is no one to pay him. Fortunately, we had locals in the van who argued with him and we finally got off. Luckily it is a speed train back to Shanghai and it’s alot more comfortable. So with that experience, I doubt very much that I will join those local tour back to Nanjing again.

Hangzhou - dh did hangzhou with the local tour by himself while i was at work. He did a 1 day tour and came back to Shanghai very late. His only grouse was that while the guide spoke about the nice restaurant facing the lake, they were not given the option to dine there. Instead, he said he had to dine at some place that looks like a canteen.

I put my parents on a 1 day tour to Zhouzhuang and suzhou and they enjoyed themselves.
