Nope. Goes by grading. Overall grade b to pass. If not wrong 60 and above.

I'm wondering if there is a (kiasu) need to sign up for compo writing enrichment classes for my K1 kid who is (or so we hope!) going into CHPS in 2015...

Compo writing class is for P1 onward. K1 can attend reading & phonics classes.

It seem like CHS has a very relaxing culture. Exams are around the corner & the boys are still playing football after school. My son told me the principal said it is important to have zest for life. According to him, most of the CHS boys are enjoying themselves rather than pushing themselves. Base on his observation, RI football field is empty most of the time.
