2013 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

Jennifer:
I always maintain we have a choice in everything we do.
Yes, if we look at the brighter side......but this will definately disadvantage some kids....and they really put in lots of effort, doing papers after papers, zoom into areas/topics whereby they are not so good in and etc. just hoping to get that addtional 1-2 marks to bring up the T-score.....funnydaddy:
How about we look at the issue at another angle: schools hv bn unreasonably stressing our children out by setting standards higher than MOE original intention.
Now the children are better prepared by schools, so not challenging anymore when sitting for MOE set paper.
If one wants to get that extra marks, one puts in very hard work, long hours etc at the expense of actually enjoying the process of learning, then it is one's choice. Dun complain when the paper is too easy based on one's ability.
For those pupils who are already doing well, they already hv an advantage over some other pupils - great brain power, fast learner etc. How can we now say they are now being disadvantaged?
Yes they do. But you cant tell this through T-score now. What is the purpose of T-score by MOE then....
Anyway, good conversation/discussion with you and we share our different view. -

What I meant is that certain group of students will do very well for MT even if it is a difficult paper (because MT is already their first language). And with the three easy papers (assuming science is easy too)...their T score will be much higher, as compared to those (majority are singaporeans) whom MT is not that good. Yes, its just PSLE but to a P6 kid, it is their very first national examination and that means alot to them. My take is that MOE will be stupid to set papers that way. I hope science will be a difficult paper tomorrow and MT is an easy one.

Sorry, do you mean kids strong in Maths when you say 'some kids'? But average students do work on piles and piles of papers, work on certain areas and rework. They do not put in less efforts and face lesser pressure.

He is taking p5 science there this year. Took him out of Maths and English because his scores did not improve at all. But thought their notes were good.... I would like to get their p6 Maths and English notes, if any one would like to sell instead of throwing it down the chute.... -

Were u able to conclude why his results did not improve? -
Letting DS relax this evening. So now still happily chatting about computer games. He can sleep at 9.30 pm instead of 9 pm. Target to revise Science on Sat n Chinese on Sun. But Science really a lot. Not sure if he will be able to look through all the papers. Maybe only target at those incorrect answers.

The students will not be able to get back their psle paper, right? If the results are not what they expect, they will never be able to know why. When i know maths is a easy paper, i started to worry. This would mean that one mark different would cause much more in the t score.
I remember few years ago when my relative took the O level examination, she said all of the classmates said the Emaths and A Maths were very easy. After comparing the answer, they thought they would get A1. When the result was out, it os not so. Most of them got A2 and started to wondering why.
