Rosyth

Hi, I was a student from Rosyth and graduated last year. I really like the school and it has given me an all rounded education
there are some amazing teachers in this school who really stretch students. And yes, I do agree that the standards are higher than that of other schools, as my PSLE T-score can be considered one of the highest in some other schools, but not yet the top 30 in Rosyth (non-gep students inclusive). Hope this helps, wish you all the best in enrolling! Feel free to ask any questions and I will try my best to answer

Would like to find out how many classes are in GEP? I heard that only those in gep are better in standard but the rest of classes are made up of neighborhood children , is it really true? People said that if it is not due to gep that unfairly pull up the grades for school, it will not be that popular ?
I disagree but would like to clarify.
Also when they go single session, what are the school hours like? And is it true that teachers don't teach but rely a lot on tuition teachers?
Appreciate your inputs. -

There is an after school care called pro teach in roysth. How is it? Do you have any feedback on whether it is good?My kids were from Rosyth n I even did PV to ensure my kids got in although I stay within 1km. I have no complaints about the school and my children got a well rounded education.
Although its a neighbourhood school, I will say the standard (Mainstream) is higher than the normal neighbourhood school.
When my dd (from Mainstream) got her PSLE results, her score could put her as top scorer in other neighbourhood schools, but in Rosyth, she is not even in the top 20.
Pertaining to EQ, I believe all schools have issues of EQ in some children, so I feel its not rite to pass a judgement of poor EQ in Rosythians simply based on 1 student's behavior.
I am not sure whether the academic standard has dropped now but I shouldn't think so becos the principal has not changed n she has managed to produce 2 top scorers in Singapore before. -
Sorry, I cant help you here as I have no knowledge of the after school care but I have seen many Rosythians there.
It is not true that the teachers don’t teach n rely on tutors. My kids’ teachers are very dedicated. Coincidentally, my ex Sec School classmate is one of the Level Heads n I can see most of the teachers are very passionate in teaching in Rosyth.
Its unfortunate that you only get to hear negative remarks of Rosyth. No school is perfect n sometimes, its just that some kids (the lower end) have issues. I recalled that year when my DD collected her PSLE results, the principal told us that there were 3 failures becos these kids were from poor family background without parental support n no matter how much the school tried to help both parents n students, they couldn’t go far without their co-operation.
If I am not wrong, there are only 2 GEP classes. You are truly mistaken if you think that the rest of Mainstream are neighbourhood children. I couldn’t help but notice that there is a sign of despising neighbourhood children. My DD was from the top class of the Mainstream - Integrity n the majority of her classmates live in landed property n condos. Only my DD n 2 other girls live in HDB flats. Her classmates did very well in PSLE and move onto either IP schools or the better O level schools.
My DS was from the 2nd top class - Adventurous. Same here - his classmates are from wealthy backgrounds n are not neighbourhood children. They also did equally well and a large majority of them went to top Sec Schools.
Hope that my inputs are able to clear your misconceptions. BTW, its not easy to enter Rosyth even if you r staying within 1km. As far as I know, there is always balloting in Phase 2C n even for this year, there is balloting in Phase 2B. -
What do you mean by neighbourhood children??? So what’s the label for children in ‘atas’ Bukit Timah schools?

Thanks. That's why I am very puzzled when I hear remarks from my friends who are teachers and invigilated students from rosyth saying that the standard is not as high as ppl say and many kids Standard of work are like neighborhood schools. Take away the gep and the standard will drop. One of them was teaching in Rgps and another from nanyang primary. They say students especially boys in rosyth are quite rowdy and not as motivated to study.Sorry, I cant help you here as I have no knowledge of the after school care but I have seen many Rosythians there.

I also have another two friends teaching in Tao nan and ghim moh says schools like roysth rely a lot on tuition and teachers teach minimum. Students who do well has a lot of extra help. So is a competition on who can afford more tuition and better enrichment programs. Makes better sense to go mediocre schools where teachers are more dedicated to cover syllabus -

Don't really understand your question but the word neighborhood is used by our minister of education, pm lee hsien loong and main stream papers.... -
People who volunteer as grassroots leaders also send their children to Roysth. How bad can Roysth be?

You said that you are staying within 1km from the school, you should have seen the students and the environment.
