Your kid must have tuition... OR ELSE...

my girl feels tired for her tuition, i’ll remove the tuition when my girl go in P1 next year…

hey(:
i’m from RGS and was from rosyth (GEP), and i just want to share my experience with parents here abt tuition.
hmm. actually i have to say that many of my peers dn hv tuition, and they are doing okay in rgs.
personally, I have had english tuition since K1, and I stopped in P1. that was because I come frm a chinese-speaking family & I guess my mum’s worried abt my english (which eventually turned out to be one of my best subject).
I registered for the learning lab when I was primary 3, but I was put on the waiting list, and almost amazingly- once I went into the GEP prog., they admitted me immediately and I was placed in a pretty gd class with a gd timeslot- on sundays. I must say that the learning lab is really gd, but like what they said in the news, it seems to me that the learning lab only admits ppl frm the so-called elite schs (which was why when I got into GEP, they admitted me immediately). The learning lab’s explanation for this is that they have more classes for the "advanced"…
but anyway, despite that, I would still recommend the learning lab to parents. I think it would be advisable to start english tuition with learning lab at primary 1,2 (the younger the better, easier to get a place there) and maths at primary 5-6 (their maths is really gd- I’ve tried it. but not the secondary sch maths) and probably science too (though I didnt try it before)
yupp, that’s all I have to share. and right now, the only tuition I have is still english tuition with the learning lab.

Hi
I have faxed my boy enrol form for English lesson to Learning Lab 4 days ago and was told that they will get back to me in 3 weeks time. My boy will be P6 next year and he is in Ai Tong Sch not GEP. Now really pray hard that he is able to get in, his score 80 in English this year.
From wat I read, seem that chance is slim.

Hi,
and maths at primary 5-6 (their maths is really gd- I've tried it.
can share what is so good with their maths ? -
hmm actually there is a chance for your child to get in, but perhaps in a weekday afternoon/night class since the weekend classes are really full.
-
Thank
They have seat for him, is ok for weekday lesson. -
their maths is gd- as they set really gd worksheets. afterall, 50% of the hefty tuition fees paid is for their worksheets.
hmm. they have tough & challenging questions that one will not be able to find in an assessment bk. this is because they have a gd database- they collect questions from GEP assessment papers which you will not be able to buy outside. they are able to train students in specific strategies to use for certain type of questions…and I found that very useful in my exams. -

Personally, I feel a service that can make an underachieving student become a top student deserves much more respect than a service that promises to make already good students into top students. What's the glory or challenge of making GEP students into superkids? And their results would be self-fulfilling.their maths is gd- as they set really gd worksheets. afterall, 50% of the hefty tuition fees paid is for their worksheets.

I, for one, would love to see a service give entry tests to potential customers and only the worst would qualify for the class. The rationale is that if you are already good, why do you need the class?
Then again, idealism doesn't make good business sense these days. -
Hi Chief Kiasu,
I second that. Unfortunately, tuition centres are Profit driven - sometimes, it’s just so hard to get a good tuition teacher who sincerely goes out to help her students… -
Hi
I have not sent my son for tuition yet and hope that I never will. I believe in reading, reading and more reading. My son started reading at 4. I used to read together with him. He really enjoys. I didn’t drill him with assessments. I found that as his English improves, his confidence increases and his school works get better.
