        Yes.

whether elder sibling studying in secondary or primary school -
So long as it is a full school, your younger sibling can enter primary 1, under phase 1 (sibling)

In sg, there are only 5 full primary schools :-
        Catholic high
        Chij st Nicholas

        Maris Stella

        Mgs
        Scgs

          Hi,

My girl is due to register for P1 this year. We lived in the west area.

My hubby is an old boy from Taonan. If moving to the East is not an option, it is too much a hassle to travel from West to East and vice versa everyday?

But are there parents who are doing this ? ie. staying far from the school ?

The other options we have near home would be (under phase 2C):

          1) Fairfield Methodist >1km<2km
          2) Alexandra Pri >2km
          3) Henry Park >1km <2km
          4) New Town Pri <1km
          5) Queenstown Pri >1km <2km

Any suggestions what should we do ?

          TIA!

depending on where you live in the west.

My siblings and I did not grow up in an estate that was near to our Primary school. My siblings used to travel from Changi Point to their respective schools which were located near Tanjong Katong and Mountbatten areas. Back then, there was no MRT and the buses were hopelessly slow.

When I reached the school going age, I lived in Bedok and still travel by bus from Bedok Interchange to the Mountbatten area to attend school.

But if you are not comfortable with your kid travelling so far, and at the same time hope for her to go to a good enough school, then maybe you want to check out PV at Henry Park and Fairfield. Bear in mind that these schools are quite popular. Hence, if you PV and you live more than 1 km away, you may still have to ballot at P2B.

Nonetheless, enrolling her to Taonan until P2A is the best. It's quite guaranteed. No stress about balloting. Taonan is a great school.

I doubt you will be able to get into Fairfield or Henry Park based on past year's results. Alexandra Primary might have a chance, but last year all places were almost taken up by SC.

Only New Town and Queenstown you will definitely get in.

But if you insist on Tao Nan - be advised though, you will need to qualify for Phase 2A1 cos 2A2 might have to ballot this year based on the new rules.

As for the distance - I personally wouldn't do that to my kids, is Tao Nan a single session school? If so, your kids will have to wake up at 5/6am if taking the school bus - and I've heard that the workload is tough there - so late nights, early mornings - not for me!

                Hi Spoiltbratdazz

What about your own alma mater, if applicable?
Some old pri schs did not disappear completely, but
got merged with other schs or were renamed -
It may be worthwhile to check with MOE.
                This gives another option.

As for the realities of commuting long distances,
it depends very much on each family’s situation.

                  Hello everyone…

Just when I’m starting to take a little breather, I’m now back on track in this thread for my son’s registration after last year registration for my girl…

hi ryes, which school you have in mind for your boy? I have a few schools in mind , will decide which one to go for once nearer to the registration date…

                    1) Plan A - Nan Chiau (P2A1, about 20 minutes drive to school)
                    2) Plan B - Yang Zheng (P2C, 1 -2 km, about 10 mins drive to school but don’t know whether have the chance to ballot or not)
                    3) Plan C - Monfort Junior (P2C, more than 2km, about 15 mins drive to school but I think stand a chance to ballot, however have not heard much comments about the school)
                    4) Plan D - ZhongHua (P2C, within 1km, about 10 mins drive to school but my sister said if choose ZhongHua, might as well choose Nan Chiau)
                    5) Plan E - St. Andrews Junior (P2c, more than 2 km, if decide to choose St. Andrew, have to change address within 1 km, then perhaps stand a chance to ballot as it seems SAJ is getting more popular now)

I know if I choose Nan Chiau, no stress at registration but the problem is, my boy’s Chinese cannot make it, I am afraid he will suffer there…trying to get a school best fits my boy but not that easy… still have 5 months or so to think about it carefully, never know choosing a pri school can be such a headache and stressful event until you are in it! gosh!

                      Hello lukemommy

That is sure one very well planned what u are gonna do!
For me, after last year’s damn stressful balloting, I decided to go for PV to secure a place. And I’m in your plan E…it’s the nearest boy school and also my brothers and nephew studied there. So in a way, want to continue it running in the family for the boys…

And you are right. Recent years with more new condo and flats around SAJS, it is becoming popular. Last year there’s balloting for more than 2km under phase 2c. Do u still have time to shift now? I tot must live in new place for certain period to qualify?

I think I know yang zheng. It’s at serangoon is it? Used to live near there.
Nan chiau is a up and popular school. Given a choice if you don’t want be stress then go for plan A. It’s a sure get in isn’t it?

                        hello ryes,

me sounds so kiasu right?? 5 plans !! lol

yes if I go for Plan A, sure will get a place but Nan Chiau has a strong Chinese environment which I am afraid my boy cannot adapt to it. Some friends said that’s good, can inspire him to learn Chinese but I know my boy…

yes, Yangzheng is at serangoon area, very near Nex shopping mall. I stay near there , just slightly more than 1 km away so falls under 1-2 km category, which means chances not high. Last year only 1 vacancy left for 1-2km, don’t know this year will have how many vacancies left for 1-2km to ‘fight’…

If I am not wrong, you can shift near the school days before the registration starts as long as the address is shown in your IC. My 2 nephews from St Andrews too. One graduated 2 years ago (spent 12 years in SA village, from pri to JC) and 1 is in Sec 2 now. actually, I think SAJ suits my boy more coz the environment is more ‘angmo’ , you know what I mean…their Chinese standard not that high so my boy won’t feel so stressful…haha

or go to Nan Chiau first, see if my boy can survive there or not…if not, transfer to another school…but I will feel bad doing this coz Nan Chiau was my alma mater and it doesn’t seem nice to do things like this…have stopped thinking about this P1 registration thingy for a month and now back in action again…
