hii parents,any of you have kids in Morris Allen...any feedback,,i am thinking of enrolling my boy in their new jurong pt branch for Creative Writing..not sure if its going to be worth it..so pls feedback..thanks!!

Both my kids are in MASC. They just join in 6 mths ago. My dd used to be in their class years ago when she was in K2. I don't see any improvement after a year there & I discontinued her lesson. However, as she grows up, I realized that what has been taught in MASC has impact on her spelling & pronounciation.
So this year, I re-enrolled her again with my ds joining in. I feel there is a lot of playing but my dd is motivated, look forward for her weekly class, started reading diligently (must be she managed to find the books that she like) & her marks in exam did improve slightly.
Based on what CKS state in another thread, parents still have to follow through what has been taught in enrichment class, err... which I did not. :oops:
Anyway, really depends on the child too. My ds is not doing too good. He found that he is being restrict over the level of books he can borrow.
I was thinking of switching them to creative writing in MASC but the course is not open yet until further advise. -
I sent my son to MA when he was in K2. He hated it. For the first lesson, it was ok as he didn’t know what to expect. The second lesson, I was able to persuade him to go despite him already showing sign of resistance. The third lesson was a struggle, he wailed and pleaded not to send him there. The fourth lesson was just to confirm the MA is not the class for him.
I later enrolled him for ICR, he enjoyed going for lesson every week despite the long list of spelling words every week.
If you asked me why the big difference, I think it got a lot to do with the chemistry between the child and the teacher. -

The teachers in MASC are native speakers, right ? Do you think that they help to teach the child to speak better English ? I mean compared to local English teachers who obviously speak with a Singaporean accent. -
Tamarind, MASC teachers are native speakers. Does it help my children to speak better? Dont think a 1.5 hour weekly interaction with ang moh teacher will allow my kids to speak better English. It must be a concious effort on my kids to speak proper English in order to improve themselves. My dd has a head way because of her classmates. Ds spoken english slacken a lot due to school environment.
Besides speaking good English, reading, writing, plays an important part too. Of course, as parents, we need to follow through the subject course that was taught in class. As usual, I fail miserably. :lol: -

Don't be too hard on yourself. I am sure you have tried your best.
I guess the best is to send our kids to daily schools to be taught by ang moh teachers. That is why parents are willing to pay those expensive fees for pre-schools with teachers who are native speakers.
But when the kids go to primary school, not all MOE trained teachers can speak good English.
I thought being able to speak like a native speaker will be helpful for our kids when they go for interviews in the future :mrgreen: -

Of course. I have friends/cousins that migrated to other countries. Their kids simply adopts the language of the country that they moved to easily & becomes incompetent in their own mother tongue.

If you dont have a genuine accent, it will be a turned off. Just need to mind grammar, enunciation, pronounciation, tone of voice & the speed of conversation. -

I know many local university graduates who cannot speak grammatically correct English. Many have problems with pronunciation.
I believe it is due to the local teachers in primary/secondary schools. I know english teachers are supposed to speak good english, but I don’t think all maths and science teachers can speak well.
I remember there was a variety show in Taiwan, where Taiwanese stars made fun of the way Singaporeans speak English. While it is true that every educated Singaporean can speak English, most of us don’t speak it very well.
I do hope that MOE can bring in more native speakers to teach in primary/secondary school to rectify the problem. -

Every 1.5 hour lesson costs between $39.50 (wed) to $41.00 (Sunday).
2 hour lesson each costs between $45.50 (Thurs) to $53.00 (Sunday).
It is not cheap !
