All About Full-Time Maids

She knows our limits.


She manages the household well. From cooking, houseworks and my kids…so we close 2 eyes on her HP usage. She only uses her hp in the toilet. I pretend I dont know about her hp so she cannot use in front of us.

My maid has been with us for more than 7 yrs…We like to think we treat her fair and well. She had been home 5x (each 10-17 days) for the past 7 yrs. We pay her for air tickets and she also gets full month pay too during her home leave.

In return, I expect her to do her job well.

My maid starts spending longer time in toilet after 1 wk with me. I observed a few days and qns her. Her reason was her face is oily and need to wash often. This few days she uses the toilet quicker. Not sure how long this will last as this is only her 3rd wk with us.

I am a bit unsure about maids. My mother used to tell me the quality of maids has dropped because now they are all "siaw gin-na" - all they think about is boys and they cannot be alone because they feel lonely. So she always said should get the older ones… But that is not easy to find.


I remember when I was very young my maid used to be very good - she would really make sure i have manners. When I misbehaved, she used to say "Celia Chan Siew Peng, you better say sorry to your brother." Nowadays, my maid just let the kids have whatever they want and sometimes they even cause more trouble.

But then again… very hard to live without a maid…

Hi, it’s first time for me to hire a maid. I got this quote from an agent for new Filipino maid.


S$500/month

Agent fee + documentation fee + insurance everything = S$1300
one time charge of S$2000 as loan (4 month salary, then the loan is cleared)

my questions are: is S$1300 considered a normal market rate? ("integrated maid", small agency, less than 1 year, operated by couple)

is it fine for them to charge S$2000 loan at a time? I thought it should be paid month by month only?

Hii Agency fees all depend, best you ask the agent, the maids have undergone any training or not…sometimes, agency fees is low but the girls super blur, come from village. There are agencies out there that charge $1000 plus for maids, but of course maids are trained or ex saudi kind,like my agent they charge 1088…lloan 4 months…as for loan, some agency take post dated cheques. most do not, all pay when maids come

No intention to offend here......just my 2 cents worth of observation, it is not country specific.

Most children are brought up very coddled these days. If the maids are 23 years old ( I doubt so....most lie and I think they are 17-18 years old).... their parents are maybe 40+. These parents are not very strict in their upbringing of their children nor did they have strict up bringing themselves.

Unlike the maids 10 years ago that had parents who had a very hard time growing up and were more strict teaching their children to work hard and hang on to a good job and employer. It's a generation thing.

Most of them have the 'so what' attitude. With the internet and 'knowledge', they feel empowered and entitled to be true to themselves. Their facebook, friends, love is above everything....so is showing how smart, how modern and \"IT\" they are with all their several smart phones, ipad, etc.

Loyalty, manners, common sense and job ethics is nothing to them. They just look for another employer that is willing to close one or both eyes. Or they just act crazy or break things....they will get their wish to be transfered.

to employer, is maid 4 month loan better or 7 month loan better?


are my below understandings correct?
1. maid is more likely to have better attitude during loan period. so the longer loan is better. (higher loan drives better attitude)
2. under same condition, a maid at 30+ should be better than a maid 20+? as she might have more experience, more patience and less likely to run away?

Hii yes you may be right to a certain extent…of cos the maids in their 20s, are more concerned about going out,making friends,hp,and non stop.They can show you attitude. Of course the girls above 30 can work well…indonesians are strong like horses even though they are in their 40s. One of my condo neighbour kept the maid for 15 years!! she is 53 now lol…

Younger maids tend to want to make friends, go out etc. Older maids sometimes difficult to teach them new ways to do things, might like to take charge and control especially if they are ex-anywhere.


Just choose a maid that you can stand looking at for the next 2 years. Things they write on their bio data… take it with a pinch of salt. During face to face interview, they may also say yes to anything and then decide later, they want to transfer.

Hi, will like to hear your views.


My maid is finishing her contract end Mar but don’t wish to continue with us. Under her contract, she’s entitled to 1 day off per month. This month, she has requested another day off to go for interviews. Will you deduct a daily rate, say $15 or just let her go? My worry is without any penalty, she will ask to be off for every week in Mar too. On the other hand, I am also worried that she has attitude problem and mistreat my two children for the rest of her contract, although I have my MIL in the house during the day before I come home from work…
