totally agree! a month le and i am still in page 80 plus. i tot the problem was me...It's been a good year of bestseller reads. My faveproblem so far...
1. The Storyteller - Jodi Picoult
2. The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling)
3. And the Mountains Echoed - Khaleed Hosseini
Painful reading...
4. Inferno - Dan Brown
Felt as if Brown was writing the book with making a movie in mind. Took the joy out of reading. Kept imagining Tom Hanks traipsing across the pages as I read. Very painful. -

haha.... glad that I'm not alone. Took me a l-o-n-g time to read the book. In the end, I skipped the pages in between and flipped to the end, just to find out the ending as I had to return the book to NLB before it's due date.

The other book that I did not enjoy reading was The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling. Cd not finish the book too. Think after the negative reviews, it's no wonder she decided to use a pseudonym for Cuckoo's Calling. Less pressure on her. -
Now on NLB's waiting list for \"The Fault in Our Stars\" by John Green. This is going to be a sob story. Hope I don't start tearing on the train!! :skeptical:

Great book I just picked up (from NLB) - The Good, the Bad and the PSLE by Monica Lim. It’s a half fictional story of a mum with 2 kids (1 bright girl and her younger clueless brother). I understand from friend that this lady blogs about her experiences etc but I had never seen her blog.
Book is extremely funny esp when it touches on tales of the clueless son. Some of the more memorable bits include stuff like the boy having difficulties in chinese and teacher telling the parent that her son was copying from his friend. The parent said "No lah, cannot be true". And answer from teacher was "He even copied his friend’s name".
I was laughing so much when I read the book that my P3 son was intrigued to start reading it and now some of his classmates also wanna borrow from him to read and find out what is so funny. Appeals to all parents with schooling kids and I guess kids who dun mind reading about kids from a parent’s perspective.
Highly recommended. So sorry I can’t return my copy yet cos DS hasn’t finished. -
thanks for the book recommendations guys

Hi,
Im wondering if you have read before Lee Child’s book. any feedback? a friend recommended me saying that it is easy to read…

I've been reading How to Talk so Kids will Listen, and Listen so Kids will Talk by Adele Faber over the past 2 weeks. It's really an insightful read!
It gave me insight into innovative ways of communicating with the kids I come into contact with, and the importance of allowing kids to work through their problems themselves. Even though the kids I interact with are not my own kids, I already find myself feeling the need to nag and rush to their aid whenever they whine! This book made me recognize the importance of exploring alternative methods of communication.
Very easy-to-understand and simple, definitely not one of those difficult to digest encyclopaedic volumes

Just discovered this thread!
Since I started being a part-time SAHM, I’m reading so much more. Luckily Passion cardholders can borrow 10 books.
Just saw a recommendation for The Good, the Bad & the PSLE. Sounds very funny so will look for it during my next visit to NLB. -
