My DD china trip organized by primary school does not allow parents to follow even if i want to volunteer.

I also heard at P5 compulsory to go for National Day parade to be spectators.... :roll: :roll: :roll: Call for patriotism at the expense of their safety, I cannot fathom.

The P5's only get to go for the preview and not on the actual day itself.
I don't think you should worry too much about safety issue. They are well taken care of as 25maid has said.

You know my child enjoy watching the parade over the TV, can zoom in and get closeup views, why go to live shows when physically not able to deal with such big crowds at that age? If stampede happens due to some mad people, who is going to be responsible?

I agree with carebear and 25hourmaid. Don't worry, the kids will be well taken care of. The teachers themselves will ensure that as they are answerable too.

Just to share - a few yrs back, when I was teaching, I managed to obtain 2 tix from the sch for the NDP preview. I gave them to my mom and sis and told them to go. Surprise surprise, they really enjoyed it. They said it was so different from watching it on tv.

So you never know, your child (DD?) may just end up enjoying herself and come home and share with you non-stop abt her experience

Yes, autumnbronze, my DS enjoyed the NDP preview when he was in P5. Before that, he actually was reluctant to go as he does not like crowds. But after the event, he was all smiles .
He even has the cap that he collected during the event till today!

I think the NDP is among the most well organised events of the year, so there is really nothing to worry and I am sure when July comes (preview for P5), you would have a nice experience to share with us and not bad experience! Hope your child's school is as organised as my boys' former school! :lol:

My uncle said that parents are very overprotective nowbecause we hv lesser children compared to the past. And he actually asked all of us who hv kids,"When will be the ‘right time’ to let go?"

A cousin-in-law of mine replied,"I’ve already started to let go when I made up my mind to send them to pre-school."

If your children are indepedant to survive school, I’m sure they’ll be alright on school trips. I asked my hb & he said tt we can’t be sheltering my boy forever. He rather teach him independance early rather than being the kiasi parent & cause our boy to not only miss out on academic learning, he’ll also lose out socially. He’ll lose out that special interaction on the bus journey, he’ll miss out the fun with his friends, he’ll miss out so much. Just on 1 simple trip/camp/overseas journey.

All parents will worry. I worry abt my boy everyday. But can I shelter my boy for long? How abt when he starts working? Can I shelter him forever?U

Would like to hear the views of parents. What happen if is to go to a not so safe place to do come voluntary work (eg. Jakarta) ? Would you allow ?

I would be more worried but I would still allow if it is organized by school o some other organisation which I feel I can trust. I have allowed my boys to attend overnight camp in SG and even overseas camps since P1&P2. I have yet to let them take aeroplane themselves but I will allow it if there is a suitable opportunity. I believe such experiences are good for them especially when they grow up in very comfortable and protected environment.
