      Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Hope everyone have an wonderful holiday!

Received an letter today asking to enrol DS to violin.
Is this consider as an invitation to join String as an CCA?
If I enrol DS in, wat if he is not consider as \"talented violinist\" & not appointed to join the school team?

Can anyone enlighten me on this pls? many thanks!

If really invited should be consider as talented… Go for it.

My DS returned the choir form on 19Jan and stated that will issue schedule by 26Jan. Till now no news hence I dropped mail to HOD CCA. Guess what? The form missing. And now the enrolment for choir closed already have to wait till April… Dunno where went wrong

My son also got into choir but only attended 1 sesson (he missed 3 before tt, due to late notice, camp and swimming heats) Teacher-in-charge called to explain tt they are training and preparing for SYF competition and so, new comers will only need to go from Apr onwards. We are perfectly fine with this arrangement 🙂

              Thx for the reply.
The letter really read like its an enrollment to a violin class and does not sounds anything like an invitation to join string as CCA??? 😐 Hence I'm very puzzled! I asked DS and he told me everyone in class got the letter?? Now I'm more confused!
I interpreted that this is just an extra violin class and they will then spot the talented ones from the class & thus invited them to the school team.
If this is the case then wats the point of enrolling?? I wonder?
Any advice from parents who have DS in string? Can give me some opinion?
              Many thanks.

My son also got into choir and has attended 2 lessons. He is not selected to join the SYF competition so ask to come back 8 weeks later. Understand the SYF competition is somewhere in April. In that case when must our DS be back to choir? Which date? Now they are practising on every Tue and Fri. After the competition the actual day is fall on which day (Tue or Fri)? Anyone know about this?

Just called one of the boy’s mum…nope his boy did not get the letter.

So this is an selective invitation to join?

Just contacted the violin instructor…and she said anyone interested can join. Screening only done for competition.

So how? I’m now more confused!

Like those DSs who joined the choir…u just joined but you will be screened for competition and if you are not selected then you just sit on the bench and wait like an reserve.

And yet DS has to go through the intensive training 2x a wk.

To join or not to join?

Yes, anyone can join the strings, but they will select for competition group too.

If it's strings you're interested, you can take a look at what they've been doing over the past 3 or 4 years at their blog.

As for Performing Groups, maybe you all want to take a look at the Showcase? Can preview how the performing groups are doing? They are quite impressive for primary school.

The next Aesthetics Showcase is 7.30pm, 24 March 2010, School Hall.
