what should P1 student bring for their 1st day of school

Actually, the teachers should be lenient enough on the 1st day of school not to reprimand the kids who have not brought books required. 1 important thing to bring : a notebook for the kids to write down what the teachers need them to bring the following days. They should be asked to bring their health booklet, files, exercise books or workbooks etc, a few items each day.I'm also new to school routine....

I've an experienced mum told me to pack only book with \"A\" + 2 excersice book.... and she said forget about color pencils/notebook...
Hiaz... I'm probably will pack
1) water bottle
2) lunch/snack box
3) pencil case
4) 2 exercise books
5) \"A\" books and text book??
hm......  -
Can any experienced parents advised (based on past experiences) what their P1 kid actually brought and used during their first few days in school?
Some people said that that the first day may not have actual teaching, so it is more important to bring workbooks as the teachers need to keep them.
I'll probably packed for my boy...
1) waterbottle
2) pencil case
3) 1A chinese workbook, 1A mathworkbook
4) 1A chinese text and 1A math text
5) note book
6) most importantly....Report book for school's keeping.

I won't pack in the workbook and all. It will be fine for the kids to bring whatever books the teacher wants to collect on the next school day, and they will usually tell the kids what they need, that's why they need the notepad to take notes. First day of school is usually class / teacher orientation and getting to know the teacher's rules

Hi!
My boy will be in Single session. from 7.40am to 1.30pm.
What will you prepare?
1) Breakfast… do you wake your kid even earlier for him/her to have breakfast before going to school? If so, what time will that be?
2) I’m concerned, as my boy don’t really have appetite to eat especially so early in the morning.
3) I understand from the school that they will have recess around 9am +/-
and since single session last till 1.30pm… I’m very very concerned my boy will be over hungry by then!!! Any mom care to share for your case?
Many thanks in advance -
Hi 2bbtang,
Your concern about the breakfast is also one of my worry too. my son also in the single session and the school bus will pick him up around 615-630am, which means that he has to wake up about 5.30am to get ready The recess time will be from 10 -10.30am…
Breakfast is very important for the day… , so is there any mom can advise us .
Thanks -
My boy is on afternoon session… I’ll let him have lunch before he goes to school… and probably pack some snack during the break/recess time…
All schools having diff stds these days… it’s so hard to even ask around to get info :x :x -
Things to bring for mommies on the 1st day of school:
1. Camera/camcorder to capture every living moment of the day that will never be repeated again… so that you can embarass your child during his/her wedding with shots of him/her crying for mommy.
2. Sunglasses in case your child’s form teacher recognises you later as the kiasu aunty who tried to get the best seat in the front of the class for your kid. Can also substitute with brown paper bags.
3. Hankies in case your emotions get the better of you when you see your child buy his/her own food by him/herself for the 1st time in your life. Useful also as a makeshift cap for your kid in case it rains during assembly, by tying the 4 corners into knots.
4. Paper fan and make-shift stools for jargaring outside the classroom. It can be pretty hot and tiring standing for so long.
5. Fake blow-up-doll look-alike of yourself to be positioned strategically within the line-of-sight of your child who would burst into tears the moment he/she realizes mummy has gone home, unless you are trying to get that embarrassing picture in point number 1. -

Hi Chief kiasu
You mean we are allowed to stand outside the classroom and wait for the child?
According to the school, we are not even allowed to get close to the child during their recess time, can only watch them from far as the school has a buddy system whereby upper primary school children assist your child in buying food. -
My gal will be attending single-session school in the morning. Bus will pick her up at 6.25am. School starts at 7.30am and she has to be in by 7.20am. Have e-mailed to school principal a mth ago to start lessons at 8.00am but did not received any response, let alone an acknowledgement. Sometimes, I feel the school administrators have very poor PR and social skills nowadays. It’s like we owe them our lives and sub-ordinated to them. Anyway, have given up hope on them.
The first few weeks would be to get my gal familiar to the daily schooltime routines. Will pack sandwiches in her bag for her first few breakfasts/lunches as I’m sure the school food and queuing will take some time to get used to and will definitely upset her appetite in the meantime. The faster she get used to the routine, the better it will be for everyone.
During the orientation, we were told to bring a water bottle and a scrap book on the first day. There will be no lessons, just games and familiarising the students to the school and teachers. I reckon, the real lessons and timetable will starts on the 2nd or 3rd week, just waiting for the teachers to update us. Better to give them space and time to settle down.
