I like traditional pyramidal metronome. haha.

Years ago when I was a little kid in the mid-1970s, my big big brother must be one of the 1st to do an Electronic Metronome. He did it for his school project and gave to me after that. He made it the tall pyramidal shape but with the electronic box inside and adjusting dials outside. Nowadays when I see the compact rectangular metronomes, I am reminded of that one. I didn't keep it though, sadly. Would have been such a momento. But left in my mum's house and dunno what happened to it.

I posted this question a while back in the piano accessories thread, and gotten some recommendations. I reviewed those metronomes, and bought a couple of them to try. Wasn't extremely pleased with them, until I bought my current metronome.

In my opinion, this current metronome is the absolute best in the market.

This is actually a metronome meant for drummers, hence the maximum volume is extremely loud. This is the only metronome that I have used that is actually loud enough to be heard when my daughter is playing Czerny (maybe I am just deaf ).

It has a very nice smooth dial for tempo control, and there are individual sliding controls for the volume of each beat, ie. you can chose to highlight the 2nd + 4th beat in a 4 beats measure, 1st & 3rd, 1st, or various combinations. You can also set the tempo by tapping on it.

One downside of this metronome is the battery consumption. It consumes one normal alkaline 9V battery in 1 day. An Energizer 9V only last at most 2 days. In the first 2 weeks I had it, it consumed a whole carton of 9V batteries. That's when I invested in the optional AC adaptor, and it was all great after that.

Hi Sleepy,
Some of my daughter's teachers uses metronome apps. I have tested them with an actual metronome, and their tempos are consistent. I don't think they are less accurate. They work pretty fine when used during softer practice, sight reading, and with softer instruments like violin. However, their max volume is not loud enough at times. Also I don't want to be disturbed by phone messages and notifications during practice.

Hi,
I bought it from Swee Lee (Bras Basah Complex.)
Cost $180 + $60 for the adaptor.
There is a cheaper adaptor, but it wasn't in stock when I asked for it.
