I really identify with what you both said, Bear.w.me and Fairy. Different kids really do require different treatment, and some kids are just out there in terms of being individualistic.

I only have one kid but all the parenting books don’t work. He’s a tremendous joy, but he can also be a royal pain. :x His swim coach just came over to tell me that he loves teasing my son cos he kena teased right back.

Anyway, I hear you guys. Gonna throw away all the books and just stick to solutions that have worked for us. And when the situation changes, I will do well to just pull back and let him work through the issues. In parenting, there is no one correct method for every child, and there will be issues that only time and patience can resolve. Hopefully, I’ll look back in 20 years and be able to laugh at all I’m going through now.

Human being is a very curious lot. So when there is a new option as oppose to 'everyday' routine; they will certainly try it.

In learning, a good teacher usually knows how to arouse the curiosity of the students.

Most children like to listen to stories...usually those with some mysteries or secrets. These stories are good to jerk their creativity or imagination. Adults alike....its just that sometimes the stories will come in the form of gossip. No offence intended.

              Well said Blobbi!!! :celebrate:
All kids are different and we just have to use our instinct to go and guide n lead them. I always told my son that I love him for who he is and not what he could achieve (for me or whoever). When he grabbed hold of this security n assurance from me...somehow the achievements just come before I know them. But of cos, this came after more than a decade of perserverance, hope n love.

Wished more educators think that way as well. I spent a good week in school and I learnt a lot about school. There are different kinds of teachers, and there are good and better ones. There are some who truly want to help and don’t know how, and some that go all out to help.

Saw that video and how we can make things fun for kids to learn. Really, if every educator does that, imagine how fun learning will be for our next generation. And, there won’t be a dull day at school.

Isn’t that what our children look forward to day to day?

Si Si, You sound so experienced and so warm and loving. Hope to hear more from you as there is much to learn.

I kept my word since that post - it's been a very good few weeks that I've kept my cool and trusted. My son and I are very close and I feel that we are even closer as a result of a more benign environment. Yes, we must be good role models as well as good supporters of our kids.

Ooh, I just spent the middle of the week chewing up a teacher :!: I'm not proud of it but it had to be done. I've learnt to not nibble my fingers and hope that behaviour patterns will disappear on their own, and that sometimes, it takes a parent to stand up for his/her child. I'm going to be more proactive going forward.

I met so many hopeless educators, I would have eaten some of them alive! But this week, one particular teacher changed my view completely. From our school lah. I really thought she has really done much to help the kids and she is there for them. Now I have a slightly different view.

Yes, majority still suck, but that one or two really makes this world such a better place for our kids.

Usually ds loves a subject that he struggles because for him struggling means learning. But this teacher terrorizes students by giving corporal punishment, books although lightly, landed on kids head & telling students off why choose this language when they did not make an effort to learn.

These scenarios upset ds totally. He broke down while trying to re-call his homework. Met up the teacher with dh. As usual, I'm \"very nice\". Never attack the teacher directly. Enough hints dropped liao. I think eat is not the appropriate word. More like wrap him around my little finger ensuring that he understand what needs to be done to help ds & ensure other kids are not touch as well.

I wonder when the teacher is going for retirement. Totally old school.
