        SunnyBoy:
undestand MEP is a subsidised program. If a child takes MEP, and his PSLE points passed EESIS COP also, will MOE grant him both MEP subsidise and EESIS? thanks in advance.

I didn't know we have to pay extra for MEP? Not \"free\", ah?

MEP is free. once your child applied for MEP successfully, he / she can get school fees subsidise about $200 per moth from MOE.

OIC. But some of our children are in schools where the fees are only S$20, so even in MEP, it's not applicable, I guess. If get S$200 from MOE, then can *earn*, liao. HAHAHA!!!

If your kid is in Independent school such as RI and NUSH and awarded EESIS($200 per month) which is still insufficient to pay full of the school fee($300+). On top of the balance you have to pay for school fee, you will have to pay for MEP which is monthly $200. Am I right?

yes you are right, Independent school has higher school fee.
Anyway MEP is free, the MEP subsidy is used to offset school fee.

MEP is free. Just like 3rd language is free, as is AEP(art elective). It's just that in some of the MEP centres, school fees are higher and thus there's a subsidy. So this only applies to Independent Schools.

                    Anglo-Chinese (Independent) \tIndependent
                    Methodist Girls’ \tIndependent
                    Raffles Girls’ School \tIndependent
                    Raffles Institution \tIndependent

Subsidy would not apply for autonomous schools which are MEP centres:
CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ \tSAP, Autonomous
                    Crescent Girls’ School \tAutonomous
                    Dunman High \tSAP, Autonomous
                    Tanjong Katong Girls’ \tAutonomous

                      OIC. Thanks sunnyboy and phankao!

In this case MEP grant benefits those who miss EESIS . Those who have taken MEP, do they drop-out easily, like third lang? Understand to do MEP at secondary school, the minmium criterial is grade 3 practical (any instrument?) and theory, do they still have to be selected thru audition? For those who do MEP, do they still have to take lesson at private school like they used to do? Or MEP cover practical? What about school like HCI which does not offer MEP, do they allow student to do it in other premises, like the third lang?

You have a child in primary school, and planning for MEP? 😉 MEP is not like SOTA(arts school), so yeah, the child should continue to take private lessons since there will be practical performing exams (esp if he/she does a performing major).

My boy is not at a MEP school, but taking a similar \"in-house\" music programme that is run along the lines of the MOE MEP. I think NYGH also has a similar \"in-house\" music programme altho they are not a MEP school.

MEP would cover music studies & music making - a whole broad curriculum ... hard to cover everything here. haha. I suggest you look at the various school websites - most have a rather comprehensive writeup.

I have no idea if students are allowed to travel to MEP centers - altho' I think one of the parents here did mention that she did just that.
