Going to register my daughter for primary 1 this year… wanted to know more about yishun primary school…appreciate feedback from parents with children from that school… thanks…

I’m new here, able to help to give some advice?

I am staying in Yishun, am now currently thinking which schools should I choose for my daughter. I am evaluating between Northland Pri(nearer to house) and Jiemin Pri. I don’t think there is any chance of my daughter entering Chongfu Pri (the best sch, no 1 in Yishun).

I always knew that Northland Pri is the no. 2 or 3 most soughed sch in Yishun. I am actually quite surprised that for Jiemin Pri - the APP (Number of Applicants versus available places for that Phase) and TUR (Cumulative Take Up Rate at the end of each phase) was quite high for the recent past few years.

I have no confident in securing a place in Northland Pri in Phase 2C even though we stay 1km within the sch due the the past balloting result, perhaps 50/50 only. I was actually from Jiemin Pri, alumni for the sch. If register for Phase 2A(1) should be able to secure a place. However my impression of that school was not that good, was actually an average or rather a below average school during my time.

Qns 1. I have not register to join the alumni associate (Jiemin Pri), am I too late now? Today is 25 June, cut off date 30 June (Mon).
Qns 2: Is Jiemin Pri really that good in Yishun recent years? Comparable with Northland Pri or Yishun Pri?

your son born 2008, registering next month, July ?

if Yes, too late.
cut off date for alumni (2008 born) submission was last year : 30 June 2013.

But don't worry.
for Jiemin primary -
your son can enter under Phase 2A2 (ex student).
2A2 is safe, for Jiemin

only very popular schools or Full schools, then worry about 2A2 > 2 km.

but if your son is born 2009 -
then next Monday, 30 June 2014 -
is the cut off dateline for Phase 2A1 alumni submission.

I have 2 shortlist primary school need to register for my elder daughter on this 30 Jul…There are Yishun Primary & Ahmad Ibrahim…both within 1km from my house…who can tell me which one is better among this 2 school? Appreciate if anyone have children in this 2 school.

Even if I add on the reserved 20 places, the total for phase 2b&c is still 73 which is a lot lesser than last year. Am I reading the numbers correctly? Appreciate some feedbacks. Thanks!

Wrong. You don't add 20 to 53.
66 places spill over from the previous phases to add to the 40 reserve set aside earlier. These will be shared equally between 2B and 2C.
Hence, there will be 53 places for 2B and 53 places for 2C. Given that there's zero take up for P2B so far, there could be up to 106 places in P2C (which will be more than last year).

P2C is the most competitive because there is no restrictions, anyone can apply. If you are <1km for Huamin, you are 99.9% safe.

I don't think that the 0.01% chance of otherwise is even accurate. Make it 100%
