Wonder how strong competition will be this year for 2C. Stress to the max!

Good luck to all in this phase!
Sigh sigh. Didn't get balloted in for HWS in phase 2B. Extremely \"lucky\" that can't get in with 83.9% chance.

Now, joining everyone else in Phase 2C. Still going for HWS again. Wonder how it will be with a lower chance now...... Sigh. Sticking with HWS because it's the most convenient to my home.

Looking at phase 2CS for worst case scenario, which school do you think is a good backup for failed phase 2C for HWS again?

Sorry to hear that. Since you stay within 1km of Hong Wen, you have a better than average chance of getting into the school ๐Ÿ™‚ . Hope you can capitalise on that this time.

You will have to state what schools you have in mind for Phase 2CS for us to comment on your options.

If it does come down to phase 2CS, not many choices left. Farrer Park, Bendemeer, Balestier Hill, First TPY. It's a boy, so can't choose Marymount Convent.
Now I fully understand the stress that parents feel in the P1 registration.

With my failure to secure a place with very good chance of 84%, now I'm likely facing a near 50% chance in Phase 2C. Alternatively, I could go for St Andrews with almost 100% chance for me as I'm within 1km, based on history. If I fail again in the balloting, the kid will have to go into Bendemeer in Phase 2CS, also within 1km.

With consideration on the kid's future, and the likelihood that his primary school friends going to be his friends for the longest period of time, I can't help wondering if I'm taking a 50/50 bet on his future by sticking with HWS. Statistically, I should still have good odds on my 2nd attempt in balloting. Let's face it, schools are popular because of the peers that one expects to have there.

The kid's future is potentially in my hands, and I'm responsible to make the best decision for him. How do I decide?

Dun be too hard on yourself, Jaster. Whatever decision you make now, I'm sure it's in the best interest of your kid. Whichever school the child goes, ultimately you will still have the strongest influence on him.

All the best to whatever school you choose.

It should be better than 50% chance for HW in Phase 2C this year.

If you don't have a younger daughter, I would say you should just go for St Andrew's. After all, it was my alma mater of 10 years ๐Ÿ™‚ The Saints have a very strong school spirit, and grooms confident students.

Since St Andrew less than 1 km is confirmed for you, go for it.

If you have a daughter, next time when come for her turn to enrol, then ballot at 2B PV Hong Wen again, next time.

I don't believe in taking a risk at Phase 2C balloting : unless that Phase 2C Supplementary school less than 1 km from house i have in mind : no need to ballot and is somewhat of a decent standard.
(I also don't believe that all schools are good)
If you have this safety net at p2CS, then by all means ballot at 2C Hong Wen.
But if you don't have this safety security at P2CS, then just enrol into St Andrew, since is confirmed for you.

After you enter St Andrew successfully -
from end of Phase 2C to end of primary 5, you have plenty of time, to seek Transfer into Hong Wen (if you still keen), or to another primary school that has affiliation to good Secondary schools, for example :
Catholic High, Maris Stella primary.
From end of Phase 2C until end of P5 -
Is a long period of time, for you to seek Transfer.

Because Hong Wen : no matter how good, still does not have an affliated Secondary school.

Then when your son at the end of PSLE, stand and look back at his path walked down before and ask himself,
Who are his ex primary school friends, from P1 to P6 ?
Plenty !
His good buddies come From St Andrew, plus those from the other Transferred school.
(Be it Hong Wen or other primary school he seek transfer to)

The info you are looking for is http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/event/2014-p1-registration-phase-2c. Essentially, if the number of applicants for Teck Ghee this year is anywhere near 2013's, you will be looking at balloting at Phase 2C.

Thank you Chief Kiasu! Can i ask the total number of applicants in 2013 includes PR right? not those who qualified for balloting under each sch's condition?

Yes, it may include those who did not withdraw their applications in time to try other schools.
