why fret and get so stressed up over this.

      1. Do you seriously believe that by going to \"good\" schools your kids will turn out any different?

it has been shown time and time again its the upbringing and efforts of parents brining up the child and their inherent predisposition that makes them what they will turn out to be.
I see a trend of not so well educated young parents who get trapped in this beliefs whuch causes such a phenomenon in Singapore. If you noticed Top executives, top professionals., Doctors etc. do not fret like the average employees about their children's primary schools.
I am worried for these generation.
Getting into popular primary schools do not guarantee anything. I know of someone who have 3 kids in one of the elite sought-after school in Holland. Eldest studying in poly, 2nd in Normal Stream Sec School and youngest PSLE this year with avg results....

Phase 2C registration is a very stressful process; application or withdrawal decisions don’t come easy and I hope there won’t be any further restriction on any part of the process.

        My home address is wonderful.
        <1km to Catholic High
        1-2km Aitong/Marymount/KCPP/CHIJ TPY

My husband and I cannot take the excitement of balloting, so we registered at St Gabriel’s as a >2km. It’s a wonderful feeling to have a confirmed place!

So if you can take risks well, by all means go to popular schools and give it a try. If you cannot take the heat just like us, maybe it’s better to look elsewhere.

Totally agreed. A confirmed place feeling is a peace of mind and not get into a stressful situation, which we should prevent ourself from getting into.

The P1 Registration system that is in place today has never been fair. The priority that is given to parents with affiliation and connection puts them in a privileged position. As for the others, there are ways to get ‘better’ priority; this however requires time and effort from the parents. Many are actually against having priority in the P1 registration system and there are debates about this going on, but that’s separate discussion for another time. I came across the word parentocracy and this piece by Bertha Harian sums it up quite nicely. Luck also plays a part in the P1 registration and this is especially so in a balloting situation. I’m sure every parent will want the best for their child and will strive to give them the best head start.

            http://berthahenson.wordpress.com/2014/ ... -children/

I hope that MOE will continue to fine-tune and make changes to the P1 registration system to allow for a fairer and more inclusive system overall. 2014 saw the implementation of a new ruling of reserving 40 seats for applicants with no connections, (20 places each at P2B and P2C) a better chance at popular schools. Hopefully more places can be opened up to cater for applicants with no connections in future.

With regards to the Ai Tong School situation, although it is unfortunate for the applicants affected, but honestly, “it is what it is”. I feel for the affected applicants and it’s a bitter pill to swallow. The P1 registration has rules to be adhered to and if any was broken, then lodge a report for the authorities to investigate. Every withdrawal and re-registration has risk(s). It will affect the balance of the applicants in the registration (both for and against). There are historic data for reference and I believe the schools do their level best to provide the necessary updated information to help applicants make informed choices. If applicants chance it when the odds are low, then be prepared for the outcome. Weather it is “no guts, no glory”, “it is a no brainer”, “there isn’t a better option”, “the chances are slim but it’s better than nothing”, “the odds are not too bad” or whatever reasons, the applicant(s) took the risk and placed a bet in their application. The same goes for applicants that balloted.

For those who already got a place, congratulations. For those who are balloting, I wish them the very best. Nobody likes to lose because it is not nice and but feeling sore about it won’t help. I hope the unsuccessful applicants (I'm guesstimating more than 2,000 will be rejected in P2C balloting) can quickly get over the gloom, chin up, look forward and plan for the next phase, P2CS. Stay positive!

There are 91 schools that are oversubscribed and 95 that are undersubscribed. MOE should focus its attention and resources on the 95 undersubscribed schools. Make efforts to understand why they are so and find solutions to alleviate these schools. Are these schools under performing, have reputation issues or do they have other weaknesses? Maybe changes can help improve these schools? Maybe our educators and the policy makers can take a serious look at opportunities at these schools and help them improve. With improvements in place, hopefully these schools will get better and with time will become more popular.

Everybody has their thoughts and opinion on the matter; I’m just sharing my 2 cents, thanks. God bless.

A total ban to withdrawals from earlier phases is not good. Many pple who use their 2A are usually those who live >2km away from their alma maters. They may then watch 2C at a school nearer their own homes. For such parents, a total ban on withdrawals will prevent their kids from going to a school nearby. That defeats the purpose of \"distance prevails\".

Joining at 2A first is a safety net, just in case the schools nearby are oversubscribed. Not all alumni applications are to popular schools so it is not a \"privilege\" per se. And another forumer also mentioned most pple are an alumni of a school so you can't say you dun have this privilege.

I support the suggestions by Chief, and I'm fine with the suggestion by Pirate as well (to allow withdrawals from under-subscribed schools).
I suppose the spirit behind the alumni priority at Phase 2A is for the school to attract old boys/girls kids back to the school, priority is typically deemed as a privilege, whether popular or not popular school. If one is not exactly keen to return to the old school in that spirit, but using it as a stop-gap measure to monitor a nearer school at a later phase, it seems to go against the spirit of alumni. It walks right into the criticism of the proponents for the abolition of this priority since it is being used in a way it is not designed for. 🤷

My son's primary school journey started with a positive outcome, I believe his next 6 years will be a fruitful and fun journey.

Plus I don't need to force myself into a 2CS school of limited choices.

DD's school was fully subscribed at P2C in her year. It was oversubscribed at P2C last year. This year, it appears to be undersubscribed by quite a bit. Go figure. Sometimes, all it takes is for the newspapers to run a piece on a nearby school and they all flock there. :faint:

Either that or dd's reputation - bad influence and all, chased them away... 😆

But seriously, I think that one good way would be for the undersubscribed schools to keep to the same number of classes originally planned for, but with smaller class sizes (instead of having some classes scrapped as appears to be the current practice). So, if a school was originally planned to have 240 places (ie. 8 classes of 30 at P1), but has a total final enrollment of 160, that school should still run 8 classes, instead of having the number of classes reduced to 5 or 6. Each class size will thus be 20 instead of the usual 30. And when class sizes become 40 in P3 at other schools, class sizes in that school only becomes 26-27. The unpopular schools are going to become popular very quickly.

Why not transfer the Top 10 popular schools principal to those bottom 10 schools & spread the news..

I think more or less will boost the application at bottom schools. :rahrah:

btw, anybody got P2C stats of Poi Ching primary application?
no. of applicants within 1km? Thanks
