Many unpopular school kids will grow up with international classmates …which may not be a bad thing…

There is still phase 3, where all the foreigners will register... So unlikely they will still be grossly undersubscribed.

That's what I thought too until last year. If one follows what happened last year, one will discover that P3 vacancies are actually fewer than what is left over from P2C supplementary. It's actually quite interesting what MOE does.

Alamak.. MOE very \"cheem\".. Dark area..better not dig into.. :siam:
Why not transfer the Top 10 popular schools principal to those bottom 10 schools & spread the news..

rotate the teachers from the popular schools to the other not so popular schools instead of the principals...i see arrows 🦆

As an educator, I feel that when MOE does the posting for us it's very random. They do not go by how well we have performed in NIE. Hence I can't agree with the fact that top school teachers are better than neighbourhood teachers. Infact in neighbourhood schools we get pupils who are under prepared and hence to make them sit for PSLE with peers from elite schools is a very exhausting long journey. What these teachers do gets seldom credit as the parents leave all responsibilities to the teachers. This is a stark comparison to teachers from elite schools as they get pupils who are already well prepared and know the concepts even before coming to class. Hence the teachers' task is to further stretch. MOE has done equipped all schools and neighbourhood schools especially, with all the facilities.

Hence fret not parents..MOE does it's best to provide your child with the best education.:-)
Hmmm... The school I taught in before, 'scouts' teachers from other schools and offer them an irresistable package. Besides it is no secret that some other schools allow teachers to apply directly where they are then put through some intense screening and interview.

However most other teachers are posted randomly and usually MOE posts them to a school near their residence.

Teachers in branded schools need not teach much…their students has been taught by tutors. But in non popular schools, parents feel that when their kids going to school, teaching is responsibility of teachers and schools. If the mothers are not locals, all the more they will feel that way.

It's an excellent idea only when resources are infinite and cost zero.

We are living in Singapore, Inc. Money talks.

But... but... the resources have been allocated. Each school is already given those places and budgets set up accordingly. We are not asking for more resources. The Ministry should not take back those resources.

Of course, this assumes that those schools still have lots of places left after Phase 3.

Spend for the sake of spending? Haven't been living long in Singapore? 😆

The underlying philosophy is: excess resources (aka waste) should be re-allocated elsewhere where it can be better used (whether it end up happening that way or not, is another matter).

Kiddies:
Anyone had update on HWS for phase 2C? Unable to get thru the school admin tel number.

Only info. is from MOE website, 68 applicants for 46 vacanies.
I called them on Friday 4:45pm, the info I got was 67 within 1 km balloting for 47 vacancies.

carilyn, phtthp and ChiefKiasu, thanks for your earlier replies.
I decided to risk it on HWS, based on location of school as top priority. Wish those balloting in Phase 2C all the best together.

Just adding my 2 cents on the registration system....
I agree that the priority is a bit unfair and doesn't help to promote meritocracy. Glad that this year, some token action was taken to increase chances for those with no connections to school. But as mentioned by some, the number of reserved seats should be tied to a percentage, rather than absolute numbers.
However, not allowing withdrawals from earlier phases will just make Phase 2C even more competitive as parents hold off final decision. The vacated seats should be handled differently, in my opinion. 1 way could be giving those, qualified for the earlier phases but didn't get it, a priority. But that is administratively overwhelming and causes more stress with very limited benefits. One easy way out could be giving those qualified for earlier phases a priority, only if, they re-registered in the same school in the later phases.
For the ATS case, I can only say that the affected parents went into the situation either with their eyes wide open, or completely shut tight (e.g. deeply praying for some miracle). Historically grossly oversubscribed, they must have known the risks of parents coming in last minute. But I do feel sorry that they have completely missed their chance to secure a place in Phase 2C. However, I must add that this missed chance is in no way different to those who are going for balloting and subsequently got balloted out. All will have missed their chance to secure a place (due to a risk they have undertaken), just that some know the results immediately instead of after an agonising wait.

Yes, places allocated to Phase 2C should be tied to a percentage, rather than just 40.

In years if a school happen to expand her intake : 40 seats are few, because intake had been expanded. It should be more than 40.
Fix a Percentage is better, rather than fix absolute figure 40.
Should go in proportion to that year's intake

Not allowing withdrawals not valid.
People with genuine reasons to withdraw, will complain all the way up to MOE

First 2 days should still let people withdraw.
Is only that last hour should prevent withdrawal.

I thought MOE feels the same way too. You mean MOE's expectation is that kids should be taught by tutors? :yikes:

Or are you saying don't send kids to popular school if don't want to send them for tuition? :siam:

Actually many non local mothers are tiger moms. People will be surprised how many children in NAFA SYT have at least one parent who is not born in Singapore.
Would it make the whole P1 reg process less stressful if there's a rule to state that if someone reg at an earlier phase (e.g. P2B), once that phase has passed, he can't go back to de-register to apply to a later phase when opportunity arises.

Just throwing up some suggestions. Please don't wallop me hur (I'm not one of the four).

I think this is a suggestion worth taking note.

In my humble view, phase 2A1/2 are already in a privileged position.
\"Chope-ing\" a place in in 2A phase and still hoping to get a better deal at later phases will really put parents in phase 2C in a further disadvantageous situation.

Why are people in 2A in a privileged position ? Most parents have an alumni. Just that many do not like or do not want their kids to go to their alumni .
I agree most parents have an alumni.
But we do recognise some alumnus enjoy the \"privilege\" of registering their child in popular schools.
It's like everyone has a background but some are more privileged.
Just my humble views. 🦆
