all kindergarten and child care centre -
should follow MOE Primary 1 (P1) Maths syllabus closely, in preparing K1 and K2 pupils, for P1 admission.
There are a number of kindergarten / childcare centre, out here in Sg -
that do not prepare K1 / K2 pupils adequately, to meet MOE Primary 1 Maths syllabus’ requirements.
They just let the children there to pass time, play play, but don’t really teach P1 Maths syllabus, properly.
As a result, after pupils enter primary school -
by P1 Term 1 (Week 4), some pupils had been identified by their Maths Tr in their respective primary schools, to attend Learning Support (Mathematics), as these children face problem with basic arithmetic eg: counting.
because these kindergarten did not even teach them how to count, properly.
End up some kids are so poor in Maths, that they do not even know how to count properly, from 1 to 20.
Once exceed 10, they got problem.
parents should be pro-active, ask their K1 / K2 Teachers, what kind of curriculum are they teaching in childcare / kindergarten ? -
