Both mother and son are pitiful.

      Poor mother, poor son

The mother must have been driven up to the wall, gone mad.
      Think she lack emotional support

Agree. So sad. Likely no where to turn, no future worth living for, everything meaningless and bleak.

          RIP.

agree...bringing up children is not easy...it's worst if the child has a learning disability and the parent looking after is not receiving sufficient support from the family.

Raising a child with learning disability is financial draining.

need to send the child for this therapy, that therapy.
All these therapy are ex, charged by the hour.

think the mother can’t take it anymore.
the burden is too heavy for her to bear, it just snapped.
wonder where is the child’s father ?

This incident reminded me of the past Rebecca tragedy
, with her nine year old autistic child.

it is time-consuming and expensive to bring the child for therapy…speech therapy, follow up with psychologist and whatever check up referred. even subsidized outpatient treatment is not cheap.

which woman will kill her own child?

You mean there was a precedent recently? I googled and found this one below. It was reported that that boy was special needs too.

How do we ensure there's appropriate assistance available for such mothers who desperately need help? Compared the them, my usual complain of dc not studying hard enough seems so trifle.

Woman charged with killing nine-year-old son in West Coast

By Chiu Peace | Yahoo! Newsroom – Mon, Jun 3, 2013

A 31-year-old woman was charged in court on Monday with the murder of her nine-year-old son.

Rebecca Loh Chui Lai allegedly caused the death of Gabriel Loh Zhen Jie at Block 704 West Coast Road between 6.08pm and 7.03pm last Saturday.

After appearing at the subordinate courts Monday morning, Loh was remanded to Changi Medical Centre for psychiatric evaluation.

According to The New Paper, the boy had fallen from the kitchen window of a fifth-storey three-room flat that he lived in with his mother and grandmother.

Police said the boy was unconscious when they arrived.

He was subsequently sent to the National University Hospital (NUH) where he succumbed to injuries and died.

The boy is believed to have suffered from jaundice and liver problems.

Channel NewsAsia said the boy also attended a special education school.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the mother had said that she was under tremendous stress and was at her wits’ end.

Loh is set to appear in court again on 24 June.

She faces the death penalty if convicted of murder.

Children with special needs, having ADHD, Down syndrome, autistic…they need more attention. If the mothers do not have support looking after them, it is easy to go into depression and do something something tragic. Looking after them requires lots of energy and patience.

So sad to read about such cases.
