97 = A Star (last year)

      This year.... Around there?
Last year's papers can't be compared to this year's, at least for the 2 subjects so far. How do you know 97 was A star for last year?

Do you think my DS is safe with 94?

Subject grade is based on raw score, regardless how difficult or easy the paper is. So for example >90 and >180 are A* for maths/science and english/chinese respectively and this is the same every year.

            Quote from MOE website:
"Subject grades, viz. A*, A, B and so on indicate the level of achievement of a pupil in a subject, i.e. how well a pupil has mastered the knowledge and skills required for the subject. These are assigned on the basis of raw scores"

A child’s score is compared with the national average and computed into the T-score for that subject. The sum of the T-scores (which do not have a grade) of the 4 subject will be the PSLE score. There is no maximum score for T-score.

A child with impressive subject grades (eg 3A* and 1A) could have a lower T-score than another with a less impressive subject grades (eg 3A and 1 A*).

I don’t meant to be rude but this has been discussed so many times. Just google for "psle briefing for parents" and you can find many slides that explain the differences between raw and T-score.

My friend's DD got 3As 1B for PSLE last year.. Her t-score was 244, higher than her friends who got 4As.. She appealed successfully to Crescent Girls' School (COP 245)..

                  That was a rather high t-score for 3As 1B.. Strange ?

                    Kangkangteo:
My DD's version of the qn

There are 60 apples and 75 pears. There are equal number of apples and pears in each bag. How many apples are there in each bag if as many bags as possible are used?

What's equal number of apples and pears in each bag? How does one interpret it?
So that's why among her gep friends, it's an even split between answers 4 apples and 5 apples. There is also a more or less an even split among her mainstreamer friends.

15 bags - 4 apples and 5 pears ineach bag

27 bags - 5 fruits (5 apples or 5 pears) in each bag -- does not make sense. To put in as many as possible bags, it can be 1 fruit (or even 3 fruits) per bag.

So correct answer should be 4 apples.
Yep you got a point there, kangkangteo. My dd chose 4 apples but she was asking if she had misread the equal number of apples and pears as many of her friends wrote 5.
Is meaningless to go on and on to find out the answers when no one has the chance to see the papers again.
Time to move on... Since 2 days after the maths paper n 3 days after eng.
let the kids do their best for the next 2/3 days with positive mind instead of pondering if their ans are right or wrong.

If English and Math papers are considered easy, the killer paper should be Science. Be prepared for a difficult Science PSLE paper.

Last year, all the 4 or even the higher MT papers were equally manageable ....

                        Similar trend should continue ....

                        🕺

I could only think of 2 possibilities -

                        1. either the kids are so smart nowadays that PSLE is no longer a fear

                        2. or MOE has been told to set more reasonable papers becos of the constant complaints from parents

So its good news for future P6ers.

                        😄
