It depends on the level of your children. Are they absolute beginners or do they already know a programming language and are learning another?

If the child has interest, he / she can start learning basic from library books and online. There are educational software downloads available free for students. Eg. Auto desk http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all

It looks interesting, until you take a closer look at the game screens which says the games are made with \"GameMaker Lite\" or something. There is a difference between programming with a real programming language vs scripting. Might be better to invest your kids' time with learning Java and developing Android applications with that language. -
You can try online courses. There are a few famous ones. Code.org is a good place to start. It is an initiative by the US to promote more female coders
