Can wait 2+ years down the road so that my turn for PSLE is over by then before MOE implement this other \"quick-fix\" which probably cause more issues? Abolish this T-score and I really will :scratchhead: how to determine range to choose schools πŸ˜“ :frustrated:

What's the problem with choosing schools again if T-score is abolished? :?

Anyone knows the avg t-scores of RGPS, MGS & scgs? They should all be in the 23x range.

For SCGS 2012 and 2013 avg t-score 233.87 and 235.48 (96.9% and 96.3% eligible for Express Stream, 100% passes). This year don't have the figures yet.

For MGS, historically, always 1-2 marks above scgs avg t-score. 2012 ksp thread, someone posted 235.3.

I think it's fair to compare MGS with SCGS as both are MS schools. Any comparison with RGPS GEP centre may not be fair.

May I know how can T score be removed? How to select schools?

Isnt O levels the same - there is still a point system for students to select the JCs.

                  panickymum:

                  A real example is
                  Student A scores 2A and 2A* can be higher T score than 3A* and 1 A .
Student c scores 2A and 2A* can be of different score of 20 marks
Student A - A and A * may be on the high side and student B may be the borderline .
If that is the case student A may not choose very good school or IP school which the student qualify
                  Agreed!

Will shortchange the students because they couldn't make an informed decision.

t score & transparency should stay.

How to allocate points for 3A* 1A versus 2A*2A when there is a possiblity the overall result for 2A*2A might be higher than 3A* 1A? Unduly penalised the 2A*2A student le.

If using point system, then need shift in focus & strategy. Child aims to be relatively balanced and equally good in all subjects but no need to be tip top excellent in any particular subject. Aim for borderline A* but no need to strive for excellence or full mark in their strength. keke, just some random thinking. Not sure if I'm making sense πŸ˜‰

If scrap t score, likely still have to report overall result, like what moe used to do during my dh's primary school era. No t score back then but moe publish overall raw score. 400 full marks.
Not sure how is that more helpful though :scratchhead:

Regardless of which system, the bottomline is that a Point System is still required. So why is everyone talking abt abolishing T-Score? Sorry, I just don't understand.

                      :?

Yes, once T-score gone, once Merit gone, Transparency gone.

                        Subjective opinion step in.

                        can have cases like :
                        - 6 points to 10 points below this Super popular Sec school cut off point, or perhaps even more.

But, because this P6 pupil happen to :
                        - have an elder brother (sibling), currently studying inside this hot Sec school, or

                        - parents happen to know P inside personally, or

                        - parents rich & influential, can donate $ to hot school, or

                        - parents ever studied before in this hot school & are active inside with good PR skills, or

                        - other \"funny\" type of situation arise :
people start to pull strings, can get their child in.

                        Current T-score is Transparent.
Every P6 pupil ranked, by computer.
You choose super-popular Sec school : you are ranked.
If meet Cut off point :
computer slot you in accordingly, secure you a place, first.
You get a place to study, because it is your merit & your hardwork : you deserve it !
                        This is fair

If fail to meet cut off point, but within realistic a few points below / away from Cut off point, can start to appeal.
