How are the Teachers like, assigned to teach IP students ?


Does the school inclined to assign the better and more experienced Teaching staff to teach IP students, tend to neglect the O level students ?

are there any Tr that teach both in IP and O level curriculum, or different track assign different groups of Teachers, to teach ?

My daughter has scored 248 (and she did not take HMT) and would like to put Cedar Girls (O level) as her first choice. I know the COP for last year is 249 (and rising!!!), not sure if stands any chance.

I would like to know the following and appreciate all response.

1) How will students be grouped in classes? Based on PSLE scores, subject score, etc…

2) Being in the lowest PSLE score (if she successfully got into), will she be classified into "second class citizens" in the school?

3) She is not very good in sports and I read that Cedar Girls emphasis quite a fair bit in sports, will it be suitable for her? She took up Chinese culture dance I primary school and was impressed by the dance performance on last Saturday’s open house. She intends to sign that up as CCA but just in case, she did not get it, then it smells trouble.

4) Another option is to scrap off Cedar Girls option and apply CCHM instead but it’s a bit wasted as Cedar Girls really boast very impressive academic track records.

All response welcome as the clock is tickling away. Hoping to firm up the 6 choices by tomorrow in order to avoid any unexpected jams…

There will be 2 Form teachers assigned to each class. As far as my DD knows, most of the teachers teaches in the IP program. Some of them mix and teaches in the O level cohort.
Not too sure if the school has assigned any particular teachers who are better but I guessed all teachers qualities are based on individual capabilities.

My daughter was one of the lowest scorer few years back. The treatment and opportunities give to all students are the same. She somehow made it to the top class in Sec 4, therefore no worries about this, it is all about the hard work along the way.

Although Cedar is good in sports, they do not expect everyone to run the same speed (they want the students to keep fit). If i'm not wrong they have modern/contemporary dance as CCA, i believe your dd has a good chance.

I would suggest you put Cedar as 1st choice and CCHM as 2nd choice (like this not wasted la)..

I believe the assignment is random - other than the DSA sports class to facilitate their training schedules.

Once she is in the school, everything starts on a clean slate. My dd's fren went in with the highest t-score and no special treatment either!

Since she has dance background, she should be able to do well at the auditions In any case, there is an appeal period after cca is allocated and they try to meet the girls' requests as much as possible. There isn't a lot of emphasis on sports, just two days of PE and one day of jogging per week. The school is well-known for its achievements in athletics - that's mainly the track n field team, doesn't mean they expect all the other non-track girls to be athletically inclined as well.

No harm putting Cedar as first choice and CCHM as second choice. The posting is by merit, so putting Cedar first does not lessen the chance of getting into CCHM in the event tt she doesn't get her first choice.
