Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]

PussInBoots:
Hi I am a P6 student this year and I am about to select a secondary school for myself. I am actually quite keen on going NY. However, my mother preferS RGS. She believes RGS produces confident girls whereas NY girls are not as outspoken. Can someone list the pros and cons of going to NY and RGS pls? TYVM

Hi PussInBoots,
Let me share with you the comments from my dd (next yr Sec 3 in NY). She says that the school gives the girls many opportunities to be more outspoken. There are many chances to do presentations in English or Chinese and there are also opportunities to go on stage to present to the entire school or cohort. Many of her friends become more outspoken and confident.
Both NY and RGS are good schools. You will not go wrong either way. All the Best to you.

Can I check is the 3rd lang added to the total marks in nanyang girls ?If don't do well in 3rd lang , will that affect the overall marks ? Thanks in advance .
3rd lang marks will be only be added to the MSG if it helps to pull up the MSG. For e.g. if the child's MSG is 2 without 3rd lang, and adding 3rd lang, the MSG becomes 1.7 then it will be added in. But if adding it makes the MSG 2.2, then it is not added. -

Yes, Rains is right, they are single beds.
Thanks, Rains :thankyou:rains:
Don't worry. Your child will be given a list of things to prepare or bring prior to the stay.
You can bring your own bedsheets if you like but there are bedsheets in the boarding school. If I remember correctly, the beds were single beds.
If your girl is afraid of cold (if you choose air con rooms) then can consider bringing your own blanket cos the blanket provided is thin. My girl is prone to running nose but her roommate can sleep in air con room without blankets. So it is really child-dependent. -

May I know what is the promotion criteria for NYGH?
What happens when a child cant meet the promotion criteria- retain, o level class or promote but subject to fulfilling the condition next yr etc.
Any info is much appreciated. Thank you! -

You need MSG of <4 to be promoted each year. Note the weightage for subjects may not be 1. I think languages carry 1.5 weightage but best you check with NY whether my understanding correct. sec 2 who does not meet MSG 4 will be placed in O level class in sec 3. Thank you for yr prompt reply. Is there any special HCL requirement to promote to next level or just incorporated in msg calculation only? I cant seem to find info on their school website.

For biology and chemistry textbooks, is it better to purchase the print version or e-book or both? TIA.
