No need worry. The seniors are there to take care. Every year the year 3 PSL spent their December holiday training to take care of the incoming year 1. Teachers hands offngl2010:
May I know how long will the reporting on 22 Dec take? What normally happens? Wondering if I should take leave to accompany DS1 to school on that day.

I think you should accompany him. He is just a 12-year old. It is a new school, new environment. He needs somebody to help him measure his uniform size even if he can buy books himself. Everybody has their parents with them. He will feel left out. Can you arrange your parents or pil or siblings to accompany him if you can't take leave?

Uniform buy from Bibi baba, not in campus.
Bibi n Baba came to campus. -
Sorry I think it is a bit harsh not to accompany your child on his first day of school. I think you can skip all the school talks and PTMs but first day of school??? He is just a 12-years old in a new environment. Maybe men are really wired differently from women.

You can still buy uniform at Popular bookshop in the campus during the school year but the sizes and quantities are limited.

Your boy has to report at RI in his PRIMARY school uniform. The flow of events on that day will be kinda free and easy..
Once your boy arrives in school, he has to register at one of the registration counters (man by senior boys). He has to show his ezLink card for identification..
You boy will be given a file which contains many forms (GIRO, HMT/MT, 3rd Lang, Personal Data etc) and other info sheets. Most of the forms need to be handed in on the first day of school, except maybe the HCL/CL Option form, which has to be handed that day..
The school bus operators will be there too, if you need to sign up for transport services from home to school (one-way only)..
The day will end with the purchase of books & school uniforms at the designated locations. If everything goes smoothly, you should be able to settle everything by 12 noon..
If possible, buy the school uniforms earlier at Bibi & Baba, as the queue for school uniforms on that day will be extremely long..
Enjoy & have fun with your boy on 22/12. It's just the beginning.. :celebrate: -

I agree wholeheartedly with ngl2010. Personally I would move mountains to take leave and be there with him on the first day of his sec school (RI or any other). What else is the family support system.
And not only for his support and help alone, i would also be damn curious to see and feel the place where my son would be spending the best part of his next 6 years.

I think it is good to accompany on 22 Dec. There are things to purchase, forms to submit and it is a good time to see the campus and meet the various staff. However, on the first day of school, 2 Jan, I don't think there is a need. The boys are well looked after by the PSLs and their teachers. In fact, it might be quite awkward I think as they with their new friends. I doubt if the boys will want parents tagging along or peering into their classrooms like pre school  You will get a chance to go to RI for the Y1 investiture evening shortly after their camp - either the 2nd or 3rd week of school.
I bought my DS' uniform at Bibi Baba directly and early as he was accepted via DSA. There will be a huge crowd on 22 Dec at the orientation with everyone buying books and uniforms from Popular at the schoo. We wanted to avoid that. Good to go before 22 Dec to Bibi Baba when it is still quiet. Otherwise the queue there after the Sec 1 posting is also going to be really long as they are a uniform supplier for many primary and secondary schools other than RI.
Hope this helps. I am sure your DS will love RI. My DS will be in Y4 next year and it has been a fantastic experience for him over the last 3 years. He is really happy and so are we

I took leave last year to accompany my son. I purchased his textbooks n uniform all on that day. Everything was very orderly and well organizedโฆ Definitely not those chaotic type that I faced in his primary school. There were even RI boys walking around in baskets offering us snacks and drinks. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. I was so impressed by the whole set up.
The textbooks were really heavyโฆ So I advise one parent to tag along.
