My girl's Chinese Teacher says that everyone takes HCL in MBS. They want to allow most/all kids to have the equal opportunity and to build a stronger foundation in Chinese. Maybe all use the same textbook (HCL) and some teachers may skip the HCL 深广 portion for the weaker students.
Hi FantasyLandDreams,FantasyLandDreams:
Hi lostbunny,
Thanks!
I just asked my DSs. DS1 says this year for p5, there are only 4 HCL classes. Not sure if there is any so called best class. As for DS2 who is in p3, he said think its 1 or 2. Actually my boys are quite bochap about all these so I hardly can gather much info from them.
Must check with P5/6 parents whether there are CL and HCL textbooks on booklist.
In P6 then they will decide who takes HCL at PSLE. -

Thanks Lostbunny,Wolfgirl:
Parents with kids in upper Pri, how do you prepare the kids for transition from pm to am session???
2 weeks before school reopen, I got DS2 to sleep at 8.30pm so that it becomes a routine for him.
Ooops... my girl reaches home at 9pm on most weekdays. Ok, must get her in bed by 9.15pm.
I guess the night before school reopening will be too exciting.... hehehe, I always have sleepless nights. -

My kid is in P5 this year. As far as I remember, all P1-P4 students take HCL. At the end of P4, students can opt for normal CL (i.e. drop HCL). At the end of P5, based on certain criteria (sorry, I can't remember exactly what, but the student's performance in both subjects play a great part), some HCL students will be asked to drop HCL.

Hi
Desperately in need of information on the culture and tone of the school as I am in dilemma in choosing between MBS and Kong Hwa. For MBS, my hubby is Alumni. But for Kong Hwa, we need to ballot under 2C, according to past trends. But we stay close to Kong Hwa.
Therefore, i would appreciate any infor on Maha so as to help me make better informed decision on whether i should take the risk to ballot for Kong Hwa.
Many thanks in advance. -
Stay put in Maha Bodhi, since your husb alumni.
Answer is obvious
You won’t want to risk such that fail to ballot into kong Hua at phase 2C, end up with no good school (neither Maha Bodhi nor kong Hua), unless you don’t mind schools under Phase 2C Supp.
When you already have a good school in phase 2A, do not risk your chance in Phase 2C.
If really so keen on kong hwa, after enter Maha Bodhi then slowly seek transfer later. But not give up Maha Bodhi under alumni like that, far too risky to try 2C kong hwa.
Since yr husband alumni, perhaps he may attend alumni meeting.
He can gather a lot of most up to date internal info, by attending meeting, talking to parents here.
In fact, attend alumni meeting : one can gather more insightful information about the school. -
Thanks phtthp for the insights. We do not receive any letter to attend Alumni meetings. Do you know how we can find out? Thanks.

I guess there is a difference between joining the Alumni and being an old girl/boy.
Sentinel, if your hubby did not join the Alumni, there will be no communication from the school. Only those who join the 校友会 (fill in form, pay subcription, join their activities) will be considered ‘Alumni’.
For majority, (people like me), we graduated from MBS but did not join the Alumni.
(guilty, guilty) Never thought of our alma mater until our kids’ registration. -
There is a top student who aced his exam and scored the highest for Chinese in the lower primary. He went to one of the Beijing Language Centre for tuition.

Hihi wolfgirl
My hubby paid for the subscription leh. But he is an ordinary member, not a life time member. Aiyoh…now I need to question hubby to see if he applied for the correct membership…He said he will receive news from sch e.g to attend concert etc…but nothing on Alumni meeting. Could that be for life time member? Or is it life time member then considered Alumni? Confused now. -

My daughter is also in P3 next year. Her teacher says there's no more \"best\" class, unlike in P5-6. (I believe 6I and 6J are the \"best\" classes next year.)
My friend's son is in 3I next year. Can safely say 3I is the top class in 2015 as this boy did really extremely well for both his P1 and P2. He could score almost close to 100%!
