I don’t think there is any pattern but to aid memorisation, perhaps you can group/classify the animals according to the name of their young and just memorise.

Even if there is a pattern , it should be quite limited.

Just a thought - maybe you can try drawing colourful mind maps, say group according to mammals. fishes, birds etc… or wild and domestic animals…

‘Was’ is the past tense of ‘am’. So effectively, ‘I’ always goes with ‘was’.

‘Were’ is used in imaginary circumstances, not just for ‘I’ alone.

eg. ‘If I were him, I would …’, ‘If she were him, she would …’, ‘If you were him, …’, ‘If he were him …’ etc

Hope this helps. I haven’t gone into extensive research on whether there are other circumstances that ‘were’ is used with ‘I’ though. Just sharing with you what I have come across.

                    Hi Rains/Jess,

                    'Nice to see you here.

                    Hi Emelyn,
My daughter is learning the young of the adults in her K2 class.
                    Last week’s spelling:

Foal is young of Horse (I don’t even remember my son learning this in K2 then).
                    Calf is young of Cow.
                    Puppy is young of Dog
                    Kitten is young of Cat.
                    Chick is young of Hen.

                      Need help:

My cousin watched a magician ____________ tricks in a circus when he was in Russia.

                      1. perform
                      2. performed
                      3. performs
                      4. was performing

My DS answered 2 but the answer sheet says it should be 1. We both did not understand why. :?
