Hi guys! I got a raw point of 10, 6 after deduction of CCA+HCL. I put ACJC science stream as my first choice even though I don’t need the affiliation bonus points. However, I was not accepted into ACJC as I just met their COP, and got accepted into NYJC instead. I have friends who made it to ACJC with raw 10 points because of affiliation, and according to the JAE guide book, Singapore Citizens are prioritised, followed by PR and then International Students, so I guess that’s why.
May I know if I stand a high chance of appealing successfully into ACJC? I don’t particularly stand out in any CCA, but my CCA points is 35 which is sort of high. -
I am sure all top JCs put in efforts. Both are top JCs.

I think HCI is a better choice as their teachers generally put in more effort
our head of State, Mr Lee Hsien Loong : is a famous alumni member, from National Junior College, not from Hwa Chong Institute.

both NJC and HCI produce good quality graduates -
who as alumni members, contribute to society greatly, within Sg shore as well as overseas. -

Agree. Both are great schools, with great teachers, students, programmes and facilities. Each has its own unique culture and environment, it is a matter of which one you'd prefer or fit in better. -

HCJC was founded in 1974, the same year LHL graduated from University of Cambridge. Not bcos he chose NJC over HCJC.JoshuaT:

But if he had a choice, he also would not choose HCJC bcos of political reasons, not bcos NJC was better. -

I appealed from ACJC's science stream into VJC with an A2 grade for CCA, although it was my CCA get got me into the college.
I think it really boils down to your actual talent in your CCA, than your CCA points itself. Like I was an A2 grade, but they felt that I could perform well so they still took me in :).
I had raw 8, nett of 6.
So I guess it depends on your proficiency in your CCA/leadership.
Hope i helped! -
Although HCJC was only founded in 1974, do note that Chinese High School (Pre U - 高中) had already existed prior to that. Chinese High boys who could afford or qualify academically would further their pre-u education in 华侨高中。
Loong's Choices:
1) Catholic High did not offer Pre-U education;
2) Chinese High was historically too political, Chinese-dominant and lessons were conducted in classroom style; and
3) RI had a Pre-U arm (six-year programme before RJC was founded in 1982), but it was also classroom-based.
However, LKY wanted to better prepare our post-sec top students for university life (among a host of reasons you can find in old news articles/parliamentary debates official reports).
Hence, in 1965, he tasked the then Ed Min Ong Pang Boon to set up \"junior colleges\" in Singapore which were to be lecture/tutorial-based (thereby simulating the university system)
The junior colleges would admit students from all language streams to ensure integration between the ethnic groups, not just among the Chinese. Lessons would be conducted in English and GP would be a compulsory subject.

Against such background, NJC was founded in 1969, the exact year LHL was due to join Pre-U 1...He didn't have to choose it. It was... :censored:
Anyway, both are very good schools...doesn't matter whether PM was alumni or not. That PM didn't pick RI Pre-U at that time doesn't mean RI was not as good as NJC, right? :siam: -
