Does anyone have comments on mpm centres at Tampines Mall?

I am thinking about sending my k1 son to mpm, but wondering which centre will be better?

1. When should a child be able to do addition/subtraction? I notice my gal's PCF K1 haven't taught them.
2. When should a child be able to do multiply/divide?
3. Do you get your child to memorise the addition/ subtraction table?
4. Do they still teach mental sums in sch? Since Pri sch kids can use calculators.

Let me try to answer this. Other parents, pls feel free to chip in.

1. My K1 has not learnt addition/ subtraction yet. She is with Kinderland and even with Enopi, she is focusing on numbers up to 40 at this point.
2. Division/ multiplication is usually around P1-P2.
3. Do you mean multiplication table????
4. Yes, mental sums are still very much required in lower primary. It's only at certain level that they are allowed to use calculator.

wouldn't it be ridiculous if a child finished pri6 and doesn't know what is 4+5 or 4x5??

Didn't know need to memorize add/sub tables! :!:

But no... just to answer to that question... don't think so. Addition and
subtraction can be worked out easily by teaching children number bonds.

Mental sums, yes.

Calculators only for upper primary usage in preps for PSLE but then again only
subjected to use in one paper if i'm not mistaken.

The general view is that you should consider the \"brain-training\" types if your child is < P1 and the \"academic\" types if your child is already in primary school. Super kiasu parents will sign up for both... but be careful of burning out your kid!


Any parents sign up both? Will the child get confused? Which is more effective?

Hi Parents, I have a kid who is in K1 now and I cannot decide whether to send him for \"brain training type - ABACUS\" or \"Academic type\". I've phobia on ABACUS because I've sent my elder son for abacus class before at CC when he was in K1/K2. When he was in P1 I really got nightmare because he forgot the abacus formula and end up with wrong answer when doing addition and substraction. In the end I have to use my own method to teach him addition and substraction from the start. SCARY. Nowsday I really scare of sending my youngest son for ABACUS. Wondering for CMA ABACUS does the child has to remember all the formula? e.g +4 = -1+5. etc. Have anyone heard of D'SEED learning Centre located at the basement of Katong Mall? They have maths enrichment called Concept Maths for Kindergarten Students. Can some parents pls give me some feedback. Many thanks.

I am thinking about sending my k1 son to mpm, but wondering which centre will be better? I know bishan and thomson are like one-teacher operation where the teachers open the centre and have one classroom only. what about centres at toa payoh and amk? thanks.

I am also looking at MPM in these areas.
