ya, i was scratching my head when i read the \"within walking distance\" sentence. Anything more than 10minutes walk is not considered as \"within walking distance\" to me.
According to DH, who spent 2 years there, the Mt Sinai site is at least 20 minutes walk from Buona Vista MRT station. Careful use of words in the MOE letter, within walking distance but not really that near. Nearer to take the bus from Ghim Moh depot or Holland Road bus stops.jtoh:
Read the letter from MOE I posted. The interim site is within walking distance of Buona Vista MRT which is on both the EW and Circle lines. Very convenient. And the authorities are also looking at alternative transport arrangements for those living near Bishan. Shuttle buses maybe?
But objectively, Mt Sinai is definitely not some \"far-flung\" places as some had mentioned. Holland Road area is central, prime location. -

from Buona Vista MRT : cannot walk to Mount Sinai campus, because it is too far. The phrase, \"Within walking distance\" is not right. Unless they happen to stay along that stretch of private houses (include terrace, condo semi-D), nearby beside the campus, then Yes, \"within walking distance\" terminology is correct.

As one walk along this stretch / row of private houses, can see maids bringing dogs for morning exercise walk, or see maids pushing angmo toddler in pram, or see maids doing marketing grocery.
need to take bus 92.
waiting time is around 10 to 15 minutes : if happen to miss one bus.
bus stop is located just outside Buona Vista (BV) MRT station.
can reach BV station, conveniently: by either Circle line, or East West line.
once u board the bus : 6 minutes later, can reach Mount Sinai campus, very fast -
The way I see it, the ones most affected are the ones who are already in the IP route and will have to study at the Mt Sinai location. So it would be the current batches who are in Years 1-3. MOE seems to be making efforts to make sure that the facilities at Mt Sinai location will be up to par and that transport inconveniences are minimized.
Those who have not entered secondary school yet and have no faith in MOE or the new JC can choose not to got there. Tough for the new JC but thatโs the reality.
Whatโs more important is are the current IP students happy with the academic programme they are experiencing at the three secondary schools? How is the communication among the authorities of the three schools? Is decision by committee slowing things down? Does each school have its own vested interest in proposing ideas for the shared syllabus and new JC? -

Obfuscation in the MOE letter. Thanks for pointing it out. But I suppose it's still better to be located near an MRT and in Ghim Moh which isn't what I would call far-flung as described by some letter writers/forumers. Imagine if the interim location was at Changi or Tuas.

A few HDB blocks by the main road are demolished, I suppose the underpass from the BV mrt is still accessible? No sheltered walkway after coming out of the underpass to old RJC site.

Merge them into CJC and all problems solved. No need to think of names, location etc and CJC is a long established JC without IP program and same name as Cat High.
the name for the new JC cannot be so longsinoboy:
No name is probably because it is difficult to decide on the name. Someone said can't be called a name like St Nicholas Singapore Chinese Girls Catholic Junior College.
name can be shorter, powerful, full of impact
actually, pioneering batch for this new JC have the honor, can propose / put forth name for the new JC to MOE, since you are the pioneering first batch of students, going to make history down the road, several decade(s) later.
since MOE till now have not decided on any name yet, pioneering batch may suggest.

What is the address of the temporary holding JC? Need to measure the walking distance from Bouna Vista & Holland Village MRT. -

Hi, so far although SNGS is the furthest from Mount Sinai, the Sec 1-3 students are not really planning on transferring to O Level Track. Rather, we are more upset about the location of the holding site as there was an uproar when the principal announced the changes. tbh, we have all accepted the fact that MOE cant do anything else to make up for their mistakes. But the principal spent assembly time talking and comforting us which in fact, didnt really change anything because at the end of the day, everyone knows its MOE's faults and not ours. I think that its the parents who want to switch their children to O level track or even transfer to another school (thats what my mother wanted to do) but as students, its not like we can do anything. We want SJI to move to the Sinai campus, we want to blame MOE, we want our future JC to be built. But we are only teenagers, and even the parents cant do anything to help us. Yes, the principal has suggested shuttle bus and everything, but this all could have happened if MOE wasnt so careless and shoved the JC aside. Okay, enough of my rant here. Hopefully the parents can now see our views in a clearer light (ofc, this is only speaking for SNGS students, I cant say the same for CHS & SCGS students).innocentchild:
Hi parents, I know its late but just wanted to check kiasuparents for parents views on the IP JC that has been delayed. FYI, Im a secondary student in SNGS and ive been patronizing kiasuparents since P6. Touched to see how Singaporean parents are very concerned for their children. Hope you will not mind me in your forum as I just want to share my views as a student in one of the IP stream in the 3 schools.
Hi Innocent, so far, we have heard are parents' view. It would be good for you to share (from students' perspective) your view or general view of the affected students in SNGS. Do they intend to switch to 'O' level track? -

I m an affected parent. Rest assured we parents are doing something to tell the relevant authorities to right what is wrong. Your principal's hands are tied - the MOE hasn't provided any good solution. As you can see most parents are unhappy, not as the letter tries to put it as the minority. There was uproar at Catholic High at the parents' briefing as well. Meanwhile just focus on your mid year and let the parents do the work.TTBCOOL:
