Yep, agree too. That is why even though I am an affected parent, I have not signed the petition :siam:Erm, they are JC students by then. All 17-18 years old. So what's the issue of travelling? I used to travel from Yishun to Mt Sinai. And that was long before circle line.
Many of my friends travelled to Bukit batok just to go Hwa Chong.
They aren't primary school kids anymore. After that, the boys will be going NS and the girls will be going uni.
U need to let them grow up and be responsible for their choices. -

So if they move RI to Tuas - are we expecting the entry standard will drop like a stone ?
Tuas? HCJC was top JC in 1980s but after it moved to Bukit Batok in 1988 and was there for a couple of years, RJC became the top JC and didn't you notice most top schools are along Bukit Timah Road.
Since there are even more choices now, why choose to go to the new IPJC when there are attractive alternatives? -
HCI - move to woodland.
NYGH - move to hougang
Raffles - move to Tuas
CHS - move to Changi or back to queens street
NJC - move to Ubin
ACSI - move to Bedok
Free up prime real estate for housing - SLA can collect more land premium and a better developed transport infrastructure all round
Not right for tax payers to pay higher construction cost per m2 at the previously designated location due to adverse soil condition, since they say additional designs needed ... just saying :siam: -

Errhmm, phtthp, you have put your mind and soul into this CHS SNGS SCGS issue but have you put your feet into the shoes of SJI?
If PM Lee say, \"let all the badly affected students from Yishun, Woodlands, Sembawang, Punggol, Sengkang, far North, Far East, use Bishan ITE premises\", issue with Mount Sinai would be settled, right ?
....
If your child not studying in these 3 schools, not staying in the badly affected areas, you will not feel the sense of urgency & panic, because you are not in their shoes, in the first case
You keep suggesting that Bishan ITE premises be 'returned' but that will involve four parties in the musical chairs instead of three.
What if a petition is also put up by SJI to our Mr President, whose alma mater happens to be SJI?

Children are tough and strong -if only we let them.[/quote]Ya. While reading the earlier posts, I was shocked to see that a parent actually thought that JC aged students still wanna take school bus to school and back home! I still remember at my age then, taking public transport is a sign of independence and we wouldn't be caught dead taking a school bus. It's so embarrassing. There was a shuttle bus to get into the campus from Buona Vista MRT Station. If there's going to be any shuttle bus, it will be from there.
It is just travelling there for 2 years. Really no big deal. ACJC also there what. Once in JC, the students will start travelling around singapore to get to their school. Not like expect it to be next door. Prestigious ones will always have their draw. If this new IP school can't even make the students travel there, it means it's a failure already. Pp staying in Jurong will gladly travel to Bishan to get to RI.
This used to be RJC's campus and many pp worked very hard to get in. The distance didn't affect their results so stop using that as an excuse. -
Perhaps if we break down the issue to look at it, we can appreciate it better from the affected people's views.
If day 1 they were told holding site would be at Mt Sinai while building the Bishan site, there might not be an issue...everyone went in with their eyes open.
However, they were told Bishan ITE was the holding site. Some people might have moved their residences to Bishan thinking everything is happening in Bishan...the sacrifices might have involved uprooting some other people in the family.
I believe this is where the straw broke the camel's back.
So they should be given a forum to air their frustrations.
I do not think they are finding the opportunity to transfer to any other IP schools but perhaps more like checking if they could occupy the Bishan ITE site instead.
To me, the ideal solution is for SJI to speed up their own campus work and move back in time for the 3 schools to go to the Bishan ITE holding site. That only puts pressure on the construction at SJI site to speed up. The refurbishment of the track and field at Mt Sinai is not trivial plus renovating some of the other facilities and millions need to be spent on a holding school (that is after spending millions renovating for Henry Park). If they cannot get the site up for them to move in by 2016 end, it will be a triple whammy for the govt.....by then, setting up this JC would also be deemed a failure.

Only 17 mins via circle line? Lucky kids. I used to take 50 mins to travel from Yishun to Buona vista and had to change train in Raffles Place. Sometimes there were school activities that lasted till late at night.Talking about express shuttle bus, parents here better do some study of the morning rush hour traffic situation in Bishan, Braddell Rd, Lornie Rd, Farrer Rd before asking for this.
I suspect the express shuttle bus is not going to be of much help. Not going to save your kids much sleep. Probably have to go mighty early in order to avoid the school crowd and reach school on time. Start school later, you'll have to meet the working crowd too.
The 17 min ride from Bishan MRT to Buona Vista MRT is faster.
(Or is someone going to challenge this 17mins MRT ride again?) -

These aren't young children anymore. The parents should simply take a step back and let their kids grow in this. If the kids themselves don't like the idea, they will organize something to voice it out. No point having the parents make a hoo ha over it. They are 17-18 years old elites. If they still need to be led by the nose at this age, their education has gone to waste. It will just appear silly if it gets to the media. I can assure you the feedback from the general public will be nasty. For the sake of your children, it's best to keep this down among the parents.Perhaps if we break down the issue to look at it, we can appreciate it better from the affected people's views.
