Jetsetter, that's very encouraging for the new IPJC students, nice of you. :please:
If we can turn back the clock, to have the full information we have now, when these students & their parents who opted to join the new JC knowing well that they will never have a chance to step into the new JC compound and the temp site would be at Mt Sinai instead of ITE Bishan, likely, we won't see so many parents feeling fustrated today.
A freind of mine told me she had to travel very far to a temp site during her time when her school was under renovation. Nobody made a noise because the school did not promise them a nearer temp site and later switched to one further away so there was no expectation. She said her school did not owe her anything then but now this case is different. There is a total absence of transparency and accountability. -

A powerful principal has more clout to move things and more resources to play with.
U mean the cutoff for the new ip prog is low? Oh pls...
It's not even easy to get into their o level track. Looks like there are plenty of parents here who don't believe in their children's ability and that extra traveling time will make them do worse. The new strawberry generation is born.
Once u get to JC, it doesn't matter who is the principal. Whether u get the As or Fs aren't because of the principal.
A good principal can manage staff and motivate students better.
Regarding parents choosing to go to an unknown unnamed untried JC because of a promised site? Oh pls.
If a student wants to go to a JC in Bishan why not just enter RI? this conclusion should be logical.

Wrong perception. You never follow PSC news ah? Times have changed.
Dunman had a high calibre principal then. That is one major factor to have the stellar results. High cutoff point means students quality might be better from the start. Whereas this new JC a lot of students might just be looking to skip the stressful O level exams and they are happy already. :siam:jetsetter:

与其耿耿于怀,不如共同努力,将3所母校的优良传统发扬光大,让新母校的明天因你们而自豪? :rahrah:
说不定2018/19年的总统奖学金得主就出自于new JC门下! :imanangel:
Eddie Teo, Chairperson of PSC wrote a famous Open Letter to manage every parent's expectations:
\"15. However, many Singaporeans still have the impression that PSC awards its scholarships solely on the basis of academic scores. They ignore the fact that in recent years we have had a couple of President’s Scholars who did not score straight “As” but had other outstanding qualities which we could not ignore. Some parents even believe that PSC goes back to look at the PSLE scores of the candidates. I would like to assure all parents and students that the PSC has no idea what the PSLE scores of the candidates are.\"
Go read http://www.pscscholarships.gov.sg/about-the-psc/chairmans-open-letter in which he mentioned HCI and RI. They are looking beyond the 2 top schools for scholars these days.
Who says new JC doesn't stand a good chance in churning out top scholars?
Scholars are picked by the people upstairs...they can \"manipulate\" the selection criteria in any way they like (incl helping a Government JC 打响第一炮). As long as the Principled Leader cum Bilingual Scholar from this new JC has reasonably good A level results and CCA track record, is effectively bilingual and comes from a humble background, the scholarship could be his/hers.
Effectively bilingual leaders are what they need now. -

I do not agree that the principal does not play a vital role here.

Can somebody explain how Serangoon Junior College cut-off point could leap from 16 to the current 11 point within a few years please?
Coincidentally, the new principal of the joint JC is the ex-P of Serangoon JC.
I only hearsay that the J1 retention rate of Serangoon JC was extremely high during her time. -

Could it be that due to the high J1 retention, the A level results improved. With the better A level results, students were attracted to Serangoon JC, leading to a fall in the COP? So does this mean that students going into the new JC should be prepared to work hard otherwise risk being retained in J1?

I do not think it is a new strawberry generation. The new strawberry generation is born.
It started when parents start driving/fetching their child to/from school.
I chose to move house to be near the school my children go to. My children are definitely strawberries. -

Huge population moved into Sengkang/YCK/Buangkok/Punggol during the late 90s into 2000s? Probably the nearest JC.

The COP of most of the jcs drop drastically , probably spillover effect of IP schools which limits the number of spaces available for O levels students . I think the value added should be a better measure.

For Sengkang and Punggol residents, Tampines & Meridian JC should be nearer. For YCK, there is Anderson. For Buangkok, both SRJC & NYJC are near.
