It is really disgraceful some parents resort to MISinformation just because they don't like the place and this is not their promised land.
First about distance then about being an unsafe place. Really disgraceful
And not happy when pointed out they are fear mongering among the parents.
MOE and LTA and Home team won't just accept all these nonsense as truth. Hope they won't be pressured by unhappy parents.
Where was the fear mongering when what was said was simply that a number of blocks in Ghim Moh had been demolished and that the place appeared deserted at night? It is not a case of \"you say, I say\". The possible concerns about the place being deserted at night could be easily checked out by the parents themselves.
Funny that some folks get so worked up when affected parents are perhaps only going to request for brighter lit paths and more street lamps? -

睫小姐,
So did Jo Teo of Bishan I posted above.
She will rubbish u if u say Mt Sinai unsafe! And to add, she studied at old DHS at Tg Katong, but travelled all the way to Mt Sinai for 2 yrs.
So there...
There is some misunderstanding :?
There is nothing about Mt Sinai being unsafe, simply that AFTER 2012, a number of blocks in Ghim Moh underwent SERS and some were demolished leaving the whole area rather deserted at night. An affected friend of mine was sufficiently concerned and would like to request for more street lights, that's all.
Unfortunately, some chose to misrepresent the situation as if I was talking about murder and rape! -

Why do you have to call parents who disagree with your views \"disgraceful\" ? Should there not be some civility in this forum? -

[quote=\"pirated\"]facts are hard to swallow when one is prejudiced to the location without setting foot on it. with wounded pride and wounded ego, it is impossible to try
I don't understand what pride you are referring? If there is, I think our pride and ego are wounded by your mean remarks. Maybe, it is more appropriate to talk about \"right\" instead of \"pride\" here. Every individual has the right to fight for their own right if they deem that it is not acceptable. The affected parents are just trying very hard to fight for what rightfully should have and the best solutions/alternatives to the problems. Whereas, some of the unaffected parents just asked the affected parents to accept the fact and obey. -

Already recommended that you go check with the police precinct HQ to check the incident history of the area against other areas and other parts of Singapore before you make baseless claims.
You were spreading misinformation that the place may have lurking crminals just a few pages ago and now you said just requesting street lamps? :scratchhead:
Again, RGPS is at the site. Henry Park primary is a few steps away. please don't discredit and paint the site as dangerous just because you want MOE to give you what you want.
You ought to be reprimanded by DennisB for not posting with integrity and conscience. :nunchuk: -

Talk about integrity, please show where did I mention about criminals lurking? I did mention about better lit paths and more street lights.

Whether the claims are baseless or not, there is no point arguing, affected parents can just go there at night to take a look. -

It was only recently someone accused me of ‘verbal sparring' everyone in the forum? She certainly learns fast but for the wrong reason. My intention was to give advice about ‘give & take’ , looking at big pics and making sacrifices that will inculcate resilience in our younger generation.
Imagine this scenario, a kid was promised a lollipop but it turned out to be curry pok. The curry pok was stuffed down the poor kid's throat and when he protested that it was not what he was promised, he was derided as a strawberry kid because everyone could eat it but not him.
This will help to alleviate disappointment & resentment of affected parents should their requests fall through.
However, this someone is trying to aggravate fear into the same group of parents by blowing things out of proportion, like her above analogy.
My version of the lollipop example will be:
‘A kid is promised a strawberry lollipop (bishan site & new building) but due to supply shortage, was offered a lychee lollipop (mt sinai site) instead. To make up for the change, she was also offered fresh strawberries (experienced & senior staff) and cream (transport arrangement) while plans are on the way to deliver the promised lollipop, to the kid’s siblings as she will outgrow them'.
By gracefully taking up the offer upon sufficient explanations, the kid will learn about compromising & managing life’s uncertainties.
What does a kid learn by wilfully pointing her finger at someone who fails to deliver a promise that is way way more complex than a mere lollipop? -

Sollie hor. That child also not in the Q to collect the lychee lollipop hor!

Go back a few pages to read for yourself. Unfortunately no matter how you changed subject this misinformation keeps coming back to haunt.

I reiterate again that RGPS is still at the site. Henry Park Primary is a few steps away. That area, including Ghim Moh and Commonwealth that you mentioned, is not as dangerous as you paint it to be. Best is check police records. -

I'm more curious what CCA holds the kids back past dinner time. Surely if there's safety concerns, parents can request that all CCA must end no later than, say, 7pm
Currently, Rgps primary school students are occupying Mount Sinai premises. The afternoon session girls (P1, P2), are dismissed daily at 6.30 pm.
The security guard standing at Gate 3 (side gate) Entrance, told us (parents) that latest by 7 pm everyday : this side gate will be closed, locked up. All parents must fetch their daughter home, latest by 7 pm.
After 7 pm :
the entire Mount Sinai campus will be empty & quiet, because everybody had left for the day, gone home. As such, No student is allowed to stay behind in school to chit chat, after 7 pm.
The same rule also apply to the front Main gate (Gate 1).
Here are the closing times, for the different gates (u may confirm) :
http://www.rafflesgirlspri.moe.edu.sg/contact-us
Similarly, new joint JC (2017) can apply same school rules, to lock up whole campus after 7 pm, so that no Junior College pupil is allowed to chit chat, stay behind inside campus, after 7 pm. All must leave, go home. Any JC pupil who wish to chit chat after school, it is safer to adjourn to the air-con Macdonald to discuss, located right at the door step of Buona Vista MRT station, on the same side as MOE HQ (Buona Vista)
==================================
Dear Affected parents of new JC,
It is good that you come & take a look yourself at Mount Sinai, check whether the place has enough lighting around 7 pm, or is it a bit dim ? It is better to check the truth yourself.
If is dim, then best to report on 25 May (Mon) meeting , request that you need more lighting, for the safety of the new JC students.
Also, may talk to the residents staying in those HDB blocks or nearby : ask them how they feel about the area, since they had been staying there, for so many years.
There is a car park, inside Block 1 (Ghim Moh).
After u park your car, can walk towards Gate 3 (side entrance)
If u wish to take a helicopter view of how big Mount Sinai campus is. or how it look like, u may take a lift directly to 14th floor, in Block 1 (Ghim Moh). Block 1 is directly located behind side Gate 3. Hence, take lift from Block 1 (not any other block)
Once the lift door open on 14th storey, u look down, can see the entire campus, laid out before you.
Looking down, u can see a huge sprawling training track field / football field, and many blocks of classroom. The row of fully air-conditioned classroom are to the right, however they may be hidden by the tall trees.
One more thing -
As u are looking down to see below campus, if you happen to find any area inside the campus that is dimly lighted up, pls highlight this to the meeting this coming Monday (25 /5), to steepen up security measure.
You may also bring along camera, take snapshot of the campus at night after 7 pm. If need be, flash these photos during Mon meeting, as proof if u really find certain areas dimly lighted.
Remember : a picture speak a thousand words
