Hi parents,
I am in a strange situation . I currently am overseas on work and renting out my unit in pasir ris till Dec 26th of 2015 . I will have a child undergoing P1 registration exercise in this JUly who currently stays with my grand parents . We plan to move to pasir ris in January 2016 . Can I use my pasir ris address for P1 registration exercise ? For sure we will stay in the pasir ris place going forward for more than 30 months . Anything special I need to do ?

Thanks a lot and all the best to all parents and children in this years P1 registration exercise

It's not a problem at all to use your pasir ris address since you own it, as long as your child stay there from P1 till end P2.

      :?
The 30months is counted from the point of registration or P1 Jan onwards? If the former, it will become an offense to use an address you are not staying there (rented out till dec 2015). Better check with MOE any SD form you need to sign.
In my condo there are easily 20 China people who have converted to Singaporeans for their kids just to get into top schools. I see them during my son’s swimming class and during our daily walks. Imagine these 20 are around the son age… one condo only… there are easily 30 condos around us so I presume the chances of real locals entering top schools will be down this year and next year

I didn't expect MOE to be so flexible! Anyway, since you have no intention to cheat, better make sure they have a record that you have checked with them beforehand that you will only move into the registered address in Dec 2015. Do write down the MOE's officer's name who took your query, just to be sure.

            Hi Parents,

Under the new 30-month rule, if we rent a place within 1km of dream school and we manage to get in, can we buy a place within 1km of the same school and then move to that new place within 30 months?

Thank you very much for your input.

By right, the answer is NO. You need to stay put in that registered address for 30 months.

I think it sounds more practical to buy rather than rent (for 30months) after getting into dream school. You may wish to appeal to MOE on a case-by-case basis. Anyway, still within 1km right, should be ok.

Weigh your chances carefully then go ahead and buy a place instead of renting, in order to have a peace of mind.

Very true, we PV with one of such parents and their son eventually is in the same class as my son. They even localized their surname !!

They are just a kiasu or even more than us Singaporean. A \"such\" coli of mine has started analyzing all the school registration statistics now and planning her bet and where to buy properties ... her kid is a few months old... :nailbite:

                    Hi all,

This is extracted from MOE website:
                    Proximity of Home to School
                    1. What address can be used for registering my child in the Primary One (P1) Registration exercise?
MOE reply: The address to be used is the official residential address on the parents’ NRIC. This address will be used to determine the home-school distance category.

If we rent a place to stay near the school, the address on our NRIC can be changed or needs to be changed?

Yes, you have to change the address on your NRIC as rightfully you should live in that address.

NRIC should reflect the actual address that you reside in, owned or rented.
