My friend just approached an agency to do everything for her. I think I read it is not difficult though troublesome if you DIY. Your maid must be able to follow your instruction to channel whatever you need to SG and vice versa. Google and perhaps you get more detailed writeup on this matter.

Is there still outstanding loan ? If yes, you will have to return the maid to agency. You can choose not to get a replacement from them though.


Otherwise, you can approach another agency for your new maid n either engage them to terminate the WP of current maid+buy air ticket etc. If not, you can easily DIY on the termination part back to back when new maid arrived.

Hi,

I have a new Filipino maid who has been with me for just 3 months. She was ex-Saudi. I let her use her own mobile phone during the night to contact her family. However, I just found out that she has been using my kids mobile phone to call Philippines. It's around $120 and I'm still waiting for this month bill to get the total amount. When I confronted her, she denied but after I showed her my phone bills, she admitted it. When I asked her why she denied at the first time, she said she's scared. She's now still working with me but I've banned overseas call for all my kids mobile phone and land line.

I'm scared since I can't trust her anymore so I plan to get a new maid. I plan to take transfer maid since I need to have maid straight away given that I have 2 kids, 8 and 10 yo and 1 small dog. How is the procedure for this?

Note: I won't get back to her agency to get a new maid. I was having my 1st maid for this agency 3 years ago and she was very good, however she asked to go back to PH to take care of her kids. I got my 2nd maid from the same agency, however I returned her after 2 months since her performance is quite bad given the warnings and instructions. My ex-Saudi maid is my 3rd maid from the same agency, replacement of my 2nd maid.

Please give me some advise. Thanks for all your help.

Did you DIY to cancel WP or asked agency to do it for you? Anyway, the status of WP can be checked via WPonline (http://www.mom.gov.sg). I do not know your arrangement/agreement with the agency (eg is the helper being allowed to transfer ?) so I cant really comment beside above.


If you are the one who booked the air ticket, you can always check if she checked in the flight etc. Overstaying is an offence so I doubt if agency would keep her in town if the WP is cancelled.

I just DIY the transfer of a maid to myself. If the work permit had not been cancelled, the existing employer will need to sign a form consenting the transfer.

If you had done the cancellation of the work permit yourself online, there is a field which you will need to complete, indicating the reason of leaving and date of departure. I cannot remember if the flight details are also required.

As the work permit had been cancelled, am not sure if the agent can re-apply for another work permit for her. You will need to check with MOM.

It is good if you can obtain some form of independent, official confirmation that she has left the country, especially if you had paid for the airfare.

anyone knows any good/cheap calling cards to Cambodia?

and i’ve been paying my maid in cash since she prefers it that way and she wants me to keep for her. I make sure she witnesses me paying her and keeping the money in a dedicated bag for her and then we countersign on the salary sheet – is this ok? I checked on MOM site and it seems acceptable if paying by cash and not through bank account. She comes from a very rural area in Cambodia and even ATM is something that she has not dealt with before and she prefers that I pay in cash and she can access to it whenever she wants

It should be ok. It was only my third maid, at the end of her first contract, that I was able to convince her to go the bank route! Most of them has debts to clear and so need access to money easily to send back home on a regular basis, which they feel they can’t do with an account.

As long as she signs the salary sheet and you both are in agreement of the amount, it will be ok with MOM. At the end of the day, it’s the mutual understanding between the two which is more imp. Although auto transferring the money her bank account is the best!
